For those of you planning to change your oil more often than is required by the manufacturer, what about the environmental impact?

Just got back from my 5000 mile service. I was informed when making the appointment that the interval had been changed to 10,000 miles, but I elected to have it changed anyway. On the little removable service reminder sticker they put on the windshield, it said to bring the car back at 15,000 or 6 months. The 15k I understand, but I guess the system has not been updated to reflect the 12 vs. 6 month interval.

Yeah, that is a mistake. Should be 1yr. per the document that circulated here.

"Some" oil change intervals revised. Keyword: SOME

After reading this thread and debating whether to do my 2nd oil change (10,000mi) myself or take it to the dealer, I decided to call the dealer and see what their "official" stance was.

After all, if I need warranty work done, they'll be the ones I'm going to have to bring the vehicle to and show them documentation that the manufacturer-recommended service intervals were followed.

I spoke with the service manager at Maplewood Toyota here in MN, and he said it is NOT official, and to stick with 5,000 mi OCI until notified by either the dealer or Toyota. Makes sense to me. So until I get an official letter with my name and/or VIN on it, I'll be changing oil & filter at 5,000 mi (and crossing my fingers in hopes for the 10,000 mi OCI to become officially official). =)

Good recommendation. We should be getting the official notice in the mail next month.

Burien Toyota now has been informed of the 10K oil change interval - they didn't know about this in late December. They really don't know how the change will be officially conveyed to owners. I'm not impressed by Toyota's process of passing important information to dealers & owners.

Also, the oil filter part number hasn't changed, indicating that (for the moment) the same oil filter will work for the 10K interval.

It has been announced to dealers. It was in a letter that gets sent to us via dealer daily. The problem is that it is so buried among mounds of junk letters that toyota has sent us it is next to impossible to find. I knew (based on the pics taken) of the date, the subject matter, the sender, and the general area in which to search. It still took me almost a half an hour to find it. I printed it out and showed the service director after he had told me that it is not official... and that there is no way toyota will be sending out coupons for people that have already had it done. He had a sheepish look on his face after reading it.

For those that have a dealer that says it is not official, tell them to consult their dealer daily under the regional category (generally right in the middle of the home page after signing in). From there, they have to look for announcements under the "Technical Service & Training" tab. There is a letter there announcing the change from their respective regional service manager or customer service operations manager. It will be dated mid-december. In addition, there are "hot sheets" (toyota's fancy term for informational pamphlets that will be very useful for sales/service personnel) that are going to be sent out mid-january. We still don't have them, FYI.

I just got a letter from Groove Toyota in Englewood, Colorado today and it states the following:
"The recommended service interval for your 2010 Toyota Prius is 4 months or 5,000 miles, whichever comes first".

Many dealers are either clueless or crooks. The toyota place near me (not too far from yours) put a "due in 3000 mile" sticker on mine.

The AZ Valley Dealers promo materials coming out still try to sell the 5k mile oil change but still "tout" the "benefits" of 0W-20 synthetic. Hopefully by next month, they'll revise w/ the correct OCI. I'm doubtful that the marketing and service arms are in too much communication.

The service arm should be in good communication with the marketing arm, and rushing out the final 5K OCI promos to collect a few more bucks before the 10K rollout next month.

Well, this weekend it was time for my 5K oil change service. I had brought my own four quarts of Mobil 0W-20 (to prevent overfilling). I had not followed this thread.

I was delghted when my service writer at Ourisman Fairfax Toyota in Fairfax, Virginia, sent me home and told me to come back at 10,000 miles.

I'll need to take it back to get the service reminder display turned off. But yeah, not all dealers are crooks! Thanks, Ourisman!

Well, actually, on second thought, I'll probably reset the reminder display myself (having actually gone back to the main sub-forum page and found the "How-To" thread on resetting.)

But actually, on third thought, I think I might take the car back in next weekend to have the oil changed anyway, and tires rotated. I'm quasi-convinced by those of you who have said it's a good idea to change it early the first time. And then I'll bring it in for an oil change "on the 5's" (15K, 25K, etc.).

Sounds like a great plan. Ask the dealer if they have any information on updating the service reminder software to 10K.

Re: Some 2010 Toyota Vehicle Oil Change Intervals Officially Revised To 10000 miles/1 year (verified

    this is my first post.
after reading this, I called 4 dealers in the RI area, they all said its "5k service for the 2010 Prius".
we have just over 10k on ours, and this past weekend we gave it its 2nd oil change, but we do alot of low speed driving (Paper route)
so the 5k is ok for me, but the fact that 4 dealer's said the same thing... TMC, is not getting the info out quick, or the dealers want to rip us off.. @ $60 per oil change, the dealers will loose a lot of money.
