Unfortunately the Prius I bought only came with a single key and no FOB at all. However, I have determined it does have keyless entry I just need the FOB. I was quoted a ridiculous amount by a toyota dealer. And I'm also told that not just any old Toyota remote will work. So I either need a remote that came with a 2001-2003 Prius or I need somebody to read me the FCC-ID number on the back of their remote so that I can confirm any used one I get will be compatible. So.. anyone reading this, can you tell me the FCC-ID on your remote? (all the numbers should be the same, so there is no way I can use that number against you to open your car, etc..) Or if anyone has one they care to sell me..
2002 TOYOTA PRIUS Keys and keyless entry remotes I have forgotten the programming instructions. I think that since you have a functioning transponder key you can make it work. I'd also suggest the purchase of a spare key, and cut and program that.
hey thanks for the link, those prices look way better than the prices quoted at the dealer, even just for the merchandise itself. I know how to program the FOB, but the key itself I might have to get the dealer to do that.
The car 'learns' the FOB and the key but from what I remember, you need a working key to teach a new key and a working FOB to teach a new FOB. I could be wrong but that is what I remember. The bad news is if the key and FOB are lost, the NHW11, 2001-03 Prius, required an expensive ECU to be bought with a master key and fob. Check the archives here and over at "Prius Technical Stuff." Oh the IRONY. A friend of mine found a FOB and gave it to me yesterday. I programmed it and it does actually work. The problem is the actuator on the driver's side door appears dead. The other 3 doors work fine. Shouldn't be a problem as I have the original key.
Good for you adric, but I still suggest getting (and programming) a spare key unless you are the type of person who doesn't lose things
Oh definitely. I'm going to get a copy. I have already inquired at several places. I'm just trying to find the best deal.
If you buy a key off the Internet, make sure you have already lined up a locksmith that will cut it - otherwise, you'll have to buy one from them and beg them to cut your other key as well. I could find no one in my area that would cut a key brought in. They all wanted the key sale.
As far as physical key is concerned any Home depot store would be able to copy it for you for about 2 or 3 dollars. Since you do have a working key that should not be a problem.
I bought my spare key from the dealer but the spare fob was bought on the Internet. I could have saved a little buying the RFID, blank key from Ebay and that is what I would do if I lose my backup key and fob. Bob Wilson
