the stock bulb sucks. doesnt illuminate much at all and i dont like that is different collor than the hid one. what other more efficient and powerful bulb can i replace the stock with? hopefully almost same color as hid. what number do i need to find a right bulb model? thanks in advanced.
I don't know the number but I got Silver-Star Ultras at Pep Boys. Almost every Sunday there is a coupon in the paper for a better price. They list for about $40 a pair, and I think I paid $30 or so with the coupon. Replacing them is kind of a pain, you have to reach in behind the grill to do it. Do a search, there are lots of articles regarding fog bulb replacement. Bottom line: not much difference for the money and time spent to change it. On my wife's Outback, the change was noticible, but I did all four (fogs and head lights). The Prius standard HIDs kind of overpower the fogs under most conditions. The Silver Stars are whiter than the yellowish OEMs. Good luck. I know this is a little dated, but still relevant. I have been searching the forums, and on line. I am looking for options- bulbs which i have considered, or other fog lights, etc. Anyone know where i might look and or compare the options? I am willing to go get a set of bright bulbs. IF they make a difference for the $30-$50 then I am for it. If it takes a little more than just a bulb to make a differnece then I am willing to consider that I have a 2009 with HID, so the stock fog lights are absolutely underpowered. If the bublb replacments are effective against fog (not just for looks) then i am interested. I need fog sollutions (pacific northwest) is a FOGGGGGGGY placearty: I am not in it just for a cool aesthetic. thanks
any 9006 hid kit will do... the color would be depend on what you want..(could be from 3000k to 10000k).... prices range from $50-$200..... here are some sites that sells hid kits.. (there are a lot out there....) thanks !!! Looking at the pricing- some that were $200 are like $50 :rockon: I know everything drops, but seems like they really DROPPED! LOL I wonder if its because LED technology is taking over (like everything else in change). As an example I got some LED flashlights that just blow any xenon or other type flashlight. Not all LED flashights, as some just suck. But actually a $25 LED is my brightest and furthest thrower than $70 or more lights that i got and they use very little energy. bringing this full circle: the 2010 G3 Prius are LED technology in the headlights right? Maybe Toyota knew/figured out the LED would conserve the electric use and perform better than HID? jsut a guess. I don't know enough about either technology. So HID conversion sounds GREAT for the fog lights- especially at pricing that rivals fancy bulbs alone I just wonder if LED technology is on the way for the fog lights. if so would it be merley a bulb with a regulating chip (kinda like in my flashlights)? and if so I wonder if that would be easy and perform better? Aside from that, thanks Bino for the HID links. That will probably work and be the answer. sorry if long, just tried to make conections to the changing technology
Can/do the HID fog light conversion kits hurt warranty coverage? either the original toyota warranty or the certified warranty?

I'm planning on going with 9006 HID's in the 4300k color range. This is the closest if not exact same color as the factory HID's. Please trust me here when I say do a search on e-Bay for 9006 slim. This will bring up the 9006 with the new slim ballast. Get the lowest cost units you can find. I have done extensive research on HID's and they are all mamde by just a couple of different companies, packaged in different boxes. Everybodys kits are 'The Best', but the truth is that a $200 kit is no different than a $50 kit. I have a buddy who is a wholesaler and he has given me all the info on these kits. A standard, single beam 9006 HID Slim Ballast kit costs just about $25 from the wholesaler! On a side note, I'd be interested to see the light output from those LED 9006 bulbs.
The dealer wants $85 to replace my fog light. I found a bulb for $11 but it has 55 W instead of the recommended 51W. Will that work?
So long as it's a 9006 Bulb, it will work. I'd suggest installing a pair of them so long as your at it. That way they will be matched and you should be good to go for a while. PS. You probably already know this, but NEVER touch the bulb itself. It will shorten the lifespan of the bulb.
This is great pricing. I recently found a site www.sharphid.com that had good pricing and a lifetime warranty, but this place appears to be even less.
