OK guys, I finally conviced my hubby that it's time to change my '94 Corolla to a Prius. Now, since I am a gadget oriented person I wanted to go with option pack 6. I do like the NAV system and the bluetooth idea for the cell phone. But I don't know if I like the the 6 disc changer, hubby want's it to have mp3 player. To get the NAV system you have to go with option pack 6 right? Or is there some other way? Also, I've heard that the JBL sound system is not that great. Can I not get it? Can I install my own?? What do you think of that JBL system? What's the difference between JBL Premium and JBL ETR? Also, is it worth getting the rear bumper applique and the glass breakage sensor? What do you guys think? What to get and what not to get? Please help, as I want to make hubby come with me tomorrow to sign up for one. I REALLY REALLY want one.
To get nav on the display, you have to get Package BC (#6), which is the fully loaded car. See the Toyota website to "build your own car" and see what option packages are available. There are aftermarket GPS systems that provide Bluetooth hands free and maybe better maps, see tomtom.com. The sound system varies by the option package. BC has the JBL Premium. Sound is improved by aftermarket sound control (B-Quiet.com) and better speakers (lots of threads in the Audio forum). A bumper protector of some sort is a good idea; too easy to scratch the paint on the flat top. I got a clear film, some prefer thick black rubber, and this can be added after purchase at lower cost. All Prii have an alarm system. If you get an option package without it activated, adding the glass breakage alarm turns it on. The dealer can also turn it on without the addition of the sensor, if you ask nicely and they are willing. I REALLY REALLY hope you get one. I love my Silver Cloud![/font:d8978f04da]
Hey, I didn't know my car had an alarm. Ive actually been wanting one but didnt have to deal with having to keyfobs, esepcially one that I would have to take out of my pocket. Maggie, if you have an MP3 player like I do (iPod) then you probably wont get much use out of the changer. Its not cheap so if you can get a Prius without it then better for you. I've put 1097 miles on my car and have yet to use the CD Changer. I didn't want it but the car came like that. It was either take it or wait until the next Prius arrived and who know what options it would have.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Bill Merchant\";p=\"105516)</div> Sounds like getting all the movie channels for free when the cable guy comes and you slip him a twenty spot. So how is the alarm controlled if you finnagle this?... on the keyfob? What kind of alarm is it anyhow?
if you do have an ipod i still would want the casette player that comes with the package 6. i also wouldnt want to give up the HID/fogs or the curtain/side or the VSC. Without the casette player you are stuck with either an FM transmitter or installing stuff on your own (and its over 100$) and the FM transmitter sounds like CRAP
Alarums <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(CraigL\";p=\"105550)</div> It's the standard alarm that's found on the BC package. It's disabled on some packages, and the dealer will sell you a glass breakage sensor for a high price, plug it in, and then enable the alarm. The glass breakage sensor is not required to enable the alarm, but the dealer's scan tool is. Some PriusChatters have reported that they asked the service tech to enable the alarm and he did. The alarm is set when you lock the doors. If a door is opened, the car makes all kinds of noise.[/font:95b7c00935]
Thanks a lot for you answers. So, I gather that the glass breakage alarm is not really a great idea. I get an alarm anyway! Right? I guess I'll get the rear bumper applique later on. Anything else I should know before I go? I do want a cassette deck. So, I think I will get the JBL sound
If you want the alarm turned on without GBS installed, read this thread: Suppressing all beeps. I bought the AM package, which didn't come with the alarm turned on. The Toyota tech guys (even the Prius tech) didn't know anything about how to enable the alarm without installing GBS. I had to give them the exact steps to turn it on. In the end, they did it with me paying for 1 hour of labor ($37). If you're going to bring a copy of the thread, make sure you don't reveal the info source. :?
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(maggieddd\";p=\"105629)</div> It's listed as an accessory, like the rear bumper applique. Most likely when you get a Prius they'll be there, whether you asked or not (at least as far as I have seen). I got them and added regular floor mats to protect them.
I have no interest in the JBL 6 CD changer/tape deck myself. However, there have been times when I've wished I had it, so I could play MP3s on my PDA through one of those casette adapters.
Hi Everyone, Well, well, well. I spend the whole day today calling different dealers to see if they had any Priuses in. I went to test drive one, and of course I loved it. I could have picked that one up right away. It did have package #6, but it was that beige/gold color (driftwood pearl). I didn't like the beige so I went hone and thought that maybe I could have a dealer that would have some other colors I could choose from. Well, I have seen all the colors already except the green one. So, I wanted a green one. Apparently, the green one is hard to get, and I heard that the geen is not really green, and people were dissaponted with it. The swatches in the booklet and on toyota's website seem completly different. So, I decided not to go with the green one in case it turns out to be really ugly. So, I decided on the blue one. Still coudln't find one anywhere. I did find a couple that I could get right away but not with the package I wanted. I will be making another trip tomorrow and just put my name on a list. So, is the silver and and red the most popular ones???
The clear applique is worthless. It is too easily damaged to be of any use. If you want to protect your bumper, you should get the black rubber one that was designed for the Matrix, but which fits nicely on the Prius. I don't think there is a black one made specifically for the Prius available in the US. The carpet mats are included as a mandatory option by most dealers, but are worth it, especially if you have a beige interior. They brush out nicely (Icarry a nylon bristle brush in the little box under the console. They can also be cleaned with soapy water in your bathtub. The large one in the trink area has a rubber backing; if you are carrying potted plants or other messy items, just flip it over and you've both protected your carpeting and provided a non-skid surface to put things on. At one time, early in the 2004 model year release, the Millenium Silver was the most popular color, followed by the Seaside Blue. That may have changed. The green is more grey than green; the red is more wine like than tomato like. The Driftwood is so-so and is, well, the color of driftwood. I wanted Blue, got Blue, and love it. If you want one soon, however, you should decide to live with whatever color you get. Bob
Glad you liked it. Green is really grey with a hint of green. You will be unique since they are discontinuing Tideland for the 2006 MY. My guess is silver is the popular one. Silver has been popular on cars since 2000 and it's the most that I've seen around my area. Seaside Pearl is the next most popular while Tideland and Salsa are tied in my area.
I kind of liked silver, but I don't want one since I see them all over the place. I don't see many of the blue ones, and I haven't seen any green ones yet. Yeah, I guess I wanted what others don't have, but I think I settled for the blue one. Didn't know it was the second popular one. I definitely don't like the red or beige one.
My color preference was 1) Tideland Pearl and 2) Salsa Red. I normally stay away from red, but Salsa Red is just so gorgeous. However, both come with ivory/beige interior, which was not acceptable for me. So, I ended up getting Silver, and I'm happy with it. I do hope, however, that Toyota will reconsider the interior/exterior color combinations in the future.
I just ordered my Prius yesterday. My top two color choices were blue and red; it just so happened that they had a red package 5 coming in that hadn't yet been sold, so I feel pretty lucky. A few other happy surprises: we found out that our credit union offers lower interest rates to hybrid buyers, and also found that our state (Connecticut) doesn't charge sales tax on hybrids! This car just keeps getting better and better. Wish I'd read the tip about activating the antitheft system in a package 4 before I bought; I'd been tempted by the package with VSC and fancier headlights/foglights, but really didn't want to give up antitheft. Oh well...I'm sure I'll be QUITE happy with what I've bought.
I really want a Prius too! I'm going to the dealer tomorrow to see what is available. Heard they were going up in price by $500 starting Aug. 1st and want to get mine before then. My favorite colors are Tideland and then the Seaside blue. Doesn't the pkg 6 also come with an anti theft system?
it's $300, not $500. maggieddd, I suggest you browse the album on PriusChat to look at the various colours. I recall seeing all the colours here. Or browse john1701a.com under Prius Owners
