Anyone had any experiences good or bad with an eBay vendor named Leela2005 from Auckland, NZ? I am considering buying some long hair sheepskin covers from her. She has good feedback from eBay and an eBay Store. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks
Hi Peter, I apologize if I'm going off-topic, but I've had both longhair sheepskin covers [IMGLINK]http://priuschat.com/forums/attachments/gen-ii-prius-main-forum/8224d1206372056-great-back-support-your-seats-002.jpg[/IMGLINK] and shorn sheepskin covers [IMGLINK]http://priuschat.com/forums/attachments/gen-iii-2010-prius-accessories-modifications/20193d1259805465-sheepskin-seat-covers-033.jpg[/IMGLINK] and IMO shorn sheepskin covers are more comfortable and better (the densely packed wool fibers stand up and then when you sit on them they bend and act like a soft, cushioned spring). You can get dense, 1" high, shorn, 100% Australian Merino sheepskins for both front seats from ShearComfort.com for $250 for their "Custom" line (which is really semi-custom), like the one shown in the above picture. This thread discusses these covers and has more pictures of them: http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii...odifications/70266-sheepskin-seat-covers.html In any event, good luck.

Thanks Tom! I did research the thread which is why I made my thread very specific. There appear to be many covers out there and we picked the NZ ones for price, looks, and vendor feedback. Just wanted to be sure there were no bad experiences out there with this vendor. Thanks for your response. Will provide feedback to the forum once we install them and test wear and comfort. Regards, Peter
I like those NZ covers too for the same reasons. And judging from my own experience with longhair covers when I had them, I'm 100% positive that the NZ covers will be very comfortable. In winter cold or summer heat, sheepskins rule!
Yes, you have to make sure to get seat covers that allow the seat-side airbags to deploy. Some seat covers do this by having a flap on the side that's Velcro'd down (e.g., GT seat covers, Exact Fit seat covers on eBay, my sheepskin covers). Other seat covers do this by having a cut-out on the side (e.g., the Wet Okole seat covers). And then a very few do this with break-a-way stitching like on the OEM upholstery (e.g., Clazzio leather seat covers, and aftermarket leather upholstery like Katzkins).
Tom. Thanks for the reply. Has anyone actually ordered and installed a set of medium range (Custom) front seat covers from ShearComfort? There is a website price of $247/pair plus $27.00 for side airbag modification. Headrests are an extra $59.00 each. Total seems to be heading toward the higher end range (Tailor Made). Thanks, D41s_sb
Yes, Pohaku ordered and installed the medium range "Custom" front sheepskins from ShearComfort for his 2010 Prius. You might want to send Pohaku a Private Message with any questions you might have. And although I didn't order from ShearComfort, I'm 99.99% certain that I have the same sheepskins for my 2007 Prius. BTW, the price seems to be $247.50/pair plus $18/pair for the side airbag modification, with free shipping and no sales tax, for a total price of $265.50/pair delivered. I think $265.50 is pretty cheap for a pair of good fitting, dense, 1" high, 100% Australian Merino sheepskins. And when I just tried to test order it, they reduced the total delivered price by another 5% -- to $250.75.
Tom, I guess that I was adding the $118.0 for the head rest covers assuming (mistakenly) that these were included in the higher end covers. I agree that 250.75 is a good price. I will try to contact Pohaku. Thanks again. d41s_sb
I have this on the driver's seat made by Eurow, bought at Costco in November for $55 shipped (not avail now), but at Amazon.com they offer it for about $72.50 shipped. do a search for 'genuine australian sheepskin sideless' I love it & it fits very well! i bought other sheepskin seat covers from Sam's Club about 3-4 yrs ago for other vehicles and love them, too. unfortunate they don't offer them anymore...but keep checking!
Thanks for the tip. They do look like a good, reasonably priced option ($55 each shipped from Costco, but $81 each shipped from Amazon). How do they stay on? (I don't see any straps.) http://www.amazon.com/GENUINE-AUSTRALIAN-SHEEPSKIN-SIDELESS-CHAMPAGNE/dp/B002R8HN1W
there are 2 vertical elastic straps w/ buckles that goes around the headrest, one midway of the seat, 2 elastic w/ hooks down by the seatbelt points, and a elastic strap w/ buckle underneath the seat. also, look at the picture of the RED SIDELESS SPORT MESH SEAT COVER on amazon.com; there are some strap pics there. this is probably something i should get for the passenger seat, but i only need one... hmmm...
Here are front, back and side pics of the ShearComfort Custom front seat covers. I have the bisque interior and the seatcover color is Mushroom. The back pocket on the seats is entirely clear. This seat cover has a flap that is attached with velcro over the side airbag. There are multiple elastic straps with hooks holding the cover to the seat and the top fits quite snugly on the seat back. They are 100% sheepskin (no acrylic panels), cloth lined and appear to be quite well made. They were easy to install although you do need to be careful of all the cables already under the seats, especially the driver's seat.
Thanks Pohaku. They fit and look great. BTW, you should be able to tuck the sides of the seat bottom covers behind the plastic cover on the side of the seat base. I think that at the upholstery shops they use a thin, hard, plastic or metal panel about the size of a sheet of paper to do this. I just used a plastic covered kitchen spatula for non-stick pans. And on my Gen II seats, I was also able to tuck the side strap in and under the seat bottom, and hook it onto the metal springs under the seat. I'll take and post a pic later today.
Thanks for the link. Going to order charcoal or gray ones. Have wanted something much cheaper than the awesome $250 ones. Main goal is to protect the seats.
I'm no expert but pile is also a term used for carpet and is like the raised loops or other yarns or fibers deliberately placed to stand away from the surface of the fabric. So my guess is how thick the pile is
BTW - Installed these Costco sideless seat covers last night on Gen III. The sheepskin is sufficiently dense, thick and a good value for $109 (tax, free ship) for two. Please do not interpret the following details as a major flaw or critique of the product since these are non-custom universal fit covers. For my tastes and requirements, the quality of the ($60) fleece makes these superior to many other fabric or synthetic fleece you may get for a similar price so I will be keeping these without regret. For those that care about these items then you may want to pass on these Costco seatcovers . . . For the contours of the Prius leather Gen III seats, I would say that it does not have the glove-like fit depicted in the reference picture but I'm sure it will form fit better over time. The elastic for the full wrap straps under the seat and around the back of the seat are loose and suited to secure a larger seat. The straps that go under and over the headrest have a slight issue since they slip off or around the headrest (leather) because the distance between these is a bit too wide at the top (due to the roughly triangular shape of the Prius headrest). Note that I was able to achieve a better fit around the headrest with these straps by clipping these in an X pattern rather than vertically. I did have trouble with one of the plastic clips slipping out under tension but stayed in place after a couple of tries once it fully seated itself after a firm "click" on insertion. Though I believe I secured all the clips under each seat equally well (i.e., under similar tension), my wife said the driver's side seat sheepskin cover had the best fit. I do like the "sideless" feature of the covers that should not interfere with the deployment of the seat airbags. As well, the lack of a hood or wrap around at the top of the seat allows it to accommodate seats that have seatbelts built into the upper part of the seat (as my Honda Element does). Lastly, the fleece of the charcoal gray covers have a healthy sheen and contrast well with the rest of the interior.
