On the fence between hankook 727 and michelin primacy for my wife's prius. Sears has hankook for 489 installed in 195-60-15 and michelin primacy for $589 in the oem size 185-65-15. Not a huge difference in price. Was told that hankook has 100K mile warranty and michelin has 60K. They are close in ratings per consumers report. I only see a handful of posters talking about real experience with Hankook. I'm concerned about treadlife on the hankook after the abysmal experience with the goodyear OEM. I doubt anyone knows the answer to longevity yet on hankook. Also, rolling resistance is another concern. Consumers gave Primacy a very good vs. good on hankook. Hankook also only comes in 195-60-15 which is more rubber on the road which makes me think worse mileage. I read Chinna's post but would like to hear from a few more hankook owners and michelin primacy owners. Consumers seems to favor hankook but something is making me think twice about them . Any advice is appreciated but would prefer to hear from actual owners. Thanks in advance.

Actually, this is flawed logic. There is not more "rubber on the road." The contact patch on the road is equal to vehicle weight divided by tire pressure, so the tire size does not matter. What changes with tire size is the shape of the patch.

Anyway, I'm getting the Hankook's on my 06 on Thursday, and we have a fair amount of snow on the road, so I will give a review here in a few days.

Thanks for your thoughts. You make a good point. Was wondering where you are getting your Hankooks from and what is the price installed. Thanks !

After a few drives sliding around in snow and ice, I decided to go with Hankook's from Sears. The day I had them installed it snowed, so the drive to Sears was not fun and the traction control activated around 8-10 times. On the trip home, much more stable and the traction control activated maybe 2-3 times. After my wife drove the car for the first time with the Hankook's, she commented that the car felt more sturdy, and I agree. Not a very scientific assessment I know, but we feel safer with the Hankook's driving around our 14 month old, whatever that is worth. I am getting about the same MPG so far after 3 weeks.

Love my Hankook's so far, we have ice and about 3 inches of snow right now, no problems. I've not had the traction control activate on me with these tires on yet. We are suppose to get another 4-6 inches of snow tonight so we will take them for a spin. Haven't noticed a reduction in mpg so far either.

I don't quite remember but I think it was around $80 with alignment.

I just had some Hankook Optimo 727, 205/55R16's put on my 2007 Prius Touring at Sears. We are in the middle of a really big snowstorm in KC and the Hankook's are doing unbelievably already! I would highly recommend them. Mileage down less than 1 mpg thus far, but not sure if due to the tires or cold weather. Rated highly for snow and ice stopping, also the ride is more quiet and stable in windy conditions.

Ok the Hankook rock, we got 6 inches of snow last night and all the schools are closed around here. I was able to get out of driveway without problem without shoveling at all, our street hasn't been yet plowed either. Very impressed!

Just got my Hankook 727's installed. Very impressed so far. We just had 5 inches of snow, and the car handled it like a champ. The traction control was not at all intrusive like it was with the POS Kelly Touring Gold tires that these replaced.

I paid $385, which included everything except alignment (additional $40). Very pleased with this purchase so far.

Sounds like I paid more than some -- total of $543 including a 4 wheel alignment, also has that extended tire warranty thing (which came in handy as I got a flat the week after getting the tires - found a nail in the tire, cost me nothing to get it fixed).

Bought the Hankooks in late October, I agree with what a previous poster said about they just feel more stable. I avoided driving in the 14" of snow we had last month, but I definitely notice better traction in the light snow and rain.

I had to go into a Sears auto store and put a deposit, they ordered them for me and they came in within a few days.

$80 with alignment would be cheap (not that there's anything wrong with that).

Usually, the lowest price you'll find for installing a tire with wheel balancing is $15 per tire (but I think the more typical price is $25 per tire) or $60 for 4 tires. So $80 with alignment is a good deal.

As mentioned in other threads, given the price difference and great warranty, I'd suggest going with the Hankooks. I have the MXV4s and just don't think they can be so much better than the 727s to warrant the extra $$.

Hankook 727 on their way from Gripston. Decided to ship them to my house instead of my Toyota dealer. I may have them installed somewhere more reasonable and aligned at dealership. Total 308.00 from Gripston. Spoke to salesperson at Gripston regarding road hazard and some other questions but ordered easiliy through their on-line purchasing system. Salesman told me that there were only 6 left in stock (yesterday) but more expected the 21st. I got four of them. FYI they arrive banded together in two's. Should there be a road hazard damage the replacement process is easy. Call them to describe the issue. Seems like they take your word to some extent about the damage. If agreed that a road hazard event took place they advance replace the tire and you return a cut out portion of the bad tire that bears the tire's unique identfier to gripston via mail. When they receive it, they credit you back what they charged you to advance replace it. The 727s come with road hazard warranty from hankook.

It really is tough to beat the price on these. I found a place locally that will install them out the door for about $350 (tax included). I just hope they end up being enduringly well-performing. I also wonder how they compare to the Nokian WR-G2's in real life.

Also considering Hankook 727 tires. I see them available in 185/60/15 and 195/60/15. OEM tires on my 2005 prius are 185/65/15, so which are the best size Hankook to go with and why?
