    Thanks for the good news.

What about the maintenance required light? Can it be reprogrammed? Will it be reprogrammed to reflect the new interval?

This is mentioned in the FAQ, however this could go either way. Either reprogram, or keep at 5000 miles as there are other maintenance interval items at 5000/15000 mile intervals such as tire balance and/or rotation and inspections.

I wonder if that coupon for a free oil change will be valid for those of us in the SE that got the first oil change free as part of the car purchase. I drive about 800 miles a week and have already had the 5K service. It's not a big deal, but it would be nice to get another free oil change.

I suspect you will as the free change was from the dealer, not Toyota.

    Thanks for the response.

I'm not clear where you are referring me to. Do you mean I should do a search? What would you suggest I should have searched for?

Seems to me it was important information of interest to all that the good people from Corporate could have included in their message.

In the initial post, there are several images of the dealer service notification. The oil maintenance required indicator is mentioned there.

Well, it should be interesting. I've got my 15k coming up soon and so I'll have that done. By that time the dealer should have some notification. I hope there will be a lower price for 5k services that include only filters, rotation, etc. and not oil.

Has there been an answer about the oil filter?

Truly this is a great day for Prius Owners, but a day of angst and mixed feelings for Lil Vern, your dealership Oil Change "specialist".

I am curious to know this as I have a Clasic Pre-Paid (1 year/3 oil change coupons) on each of my Prii. I'd hope Toyota will simply double the legnth of my plan to 2 years / 3 oil changes. I'm not sure how that would effect the 5K 'service', although if my dealer thinks I'm going to pay them $40 and 1-1.5 hours of my time for a tire rotation ... I think NOT. I do my own rotation every other 5K (in about 20 minutes) and have Discount Tire do the rotation and a rebalance (for free) on the other 5K intervals.

Hey, I just got an email from my dealer for a "service reminder" dated January 4, 2010. How did they know I was about 500 miles away from 5K? I can't help but wonder about the timing...

Re: Some 2010 Toyota Vehicle Oil Change Intervals Officially Revised To 10000 miles/1 year (verified

Here's what I got from the maint guide, and factoring in the different oil interval [I'm going to assume the oil filter would be changed when the oil is changed - doesn't make sense to me to do them separately]:

    Every 5K/6mo:
    Rotate tires
Inspect brakes [also not sure how important this is, or if it's in there simply because the tires will be off the car - I suspect the latter.]

    Every 10K/12mo:
    Oil & filter
Clean (not replace) cabin filter on Solar-equipped models
(plus all 5K stuff, of course)

    Every 15K/18mo:
Clean (not replace) cabin filter on non-solar models
    Inspect (not replace) various bits.

    Every 20K/24mo:
Replace cabin filter on Solar-equipped models

    Every 30K/36mo:
Replace cabin filter on non-solar models
Inspect (not replace) more extensive list of stuff.

    @100K/10yr:
    CONFLICTING INFO IN MANUAL:
Says "Replace engine/inverter coolant" with a footnote.
Footnote reads: "Initial engine coolant replacement at 100K/10yr. Replace every 50k/5yr thereafter. Initial inverter coolant replacement at 150K/15yr. Replace every 50K/5yr thereafter"

    @120K/12yr:
Another error: says to replace engine coolant (again?). Same footnote as 100K.
Replace spark plugs (again with footnote).
Footnote reads: "Required under the terms of the Emission Control Warranty. For vehicles corresponding to PZEV for CA, ME, MA, NY, and VT, replacement interval is 150K." [kinda weird as those states tend to have tighter emissions controls but they are recommending more lenient plug replacement. But apparently that doesn't invalidate the Emissions warranty?]

Well I've got over 16,000 miles and have done 3 oil changes for the outrageous dealer prices -- $85. I'm very pleased that this was done but it really should have been this way from the beginning. Certainly better late than never.

Re: Some 2010 Toyota Vehicle Oil Change Intervals Officially Revised To 10000 miles/1 year (verified

Cleaverly, I bought the pre-paid maintenance when I bought my 2010 Prius two months ago. This agreement is for a 5,000 oil change interval up to 45,000 miles over a period of 4 years. Since the new interval is for 10,000 miles it will take twice as long to reach the 11 service intervals covered by this agreement. This means that unless extended I would be getting only half the required oil changes, cutting the value of my agreement in half. I just spoke to Toyota financial services about this and they denied any knowledge of the extended interval. They also said that if, hypthetically, there was an extended interval they would not do anyting to extend the coverage time since "that is the agreement I bought". Cancelling it now, after owning the car for only 2 months and having only 1300 miles on it will cost me $80.00, even though I have not used one service coupon. I will cancel the agreement anyway because I will lose a lot more than that if I keep it. Therefore a warning: DO NOT BUY ONE OF THESE PRE-PAID SERVICE AGREEMENTS! Toyota will not do anything to make you whole and modify thier terms.

I am kind of particularly mad. I brought this up at a new owner's event where we were specifically discussing the new oils and intervals. I mentioned the bulletin that was on here that I KNOW they received. I asked if it were true Toyota was considering increasing the intervals on the Prius to 10k for the 0-w20 synthetic. They denied it fervently. Now I have had 2 oil changes and they weren't particularly cheap. For multiple reasons they main being that I live so far from them, I am going to go to a dealership closer to me for now on. I'm going to look out for that coupon and hope just eat the extra 50-75 bucks it cost for that extra oil change. Maybe early on it wasn't such a terrible idea getting the oil changed an extra time.

I just can't stand dealerships acting seemingly elitist. They always try to hide things or dumb it down. They never voluntarily provide information. I have tried ordering about 3 different parts and I was never contacted again. I'm just done dealing with them. It's a shame too, because they were so helpful in certain areas.

I also have a prepaid. Fortunantly it's just a 1 year/3 oil changes. If Toyota doesn't offer to change the legnth of time to get the oil changes that were paid for, I'll simple make my dealer change the flippin oil every 5K, as per the agreement! :eyebrows:
To be honest, I would'n't want to go 10K on the oil the motor was broken in on.

Good for you guys in USA! finally you get what we had here in EU since always - 15.000km/1 year oil change intervals!
Also worth noting the coupon to get an oil change for free for those who have done the 5k miles oil change already.
