Does everyone use toyoto dealer for prius maintenance? I bought my prius today. They offered me 4-year services including oil/filter change and 15k 30k 45k services for ~$1700. Was it reasonable?
Don't buy pre-paid maintenance!!! It's a waste of your hard earned money. The recommended 5K service averages about $50. You do the math.
Edmunds.com "True cost to own" lists maintenance as $463 for the first year and a total of $2782 (year 1 $463, year 2 $733, year 3 $655, and year 4 $931) for the first four years of ownership.
You have thirty days to get your money back, don't wait... Consider the dealership to be like a casino, get your money and head out the door, don't look at the flashing lights just walk away
Thank you for all the information. I actually did not buy the package. Since I had the option to go back to buy it, I just wanted to make sure that I made the right decision.
Welcome to prius pc,i hope you didn't buy the extented warranty too. you could get same warranty thought priuschat for half the price just seach for discounted toyota extented warranty here.also mantenance plan too.
I think $1700 is a lot of money. This forum seems to love Troy Dietrich. I'm going to give him a call tomorrow to see what he has to offer. According to this site he has a Toyota Extra Care Platinum Plan for 7 years/100000 miles/$0 deductible for $1055 (MRSP $1850). (https://www.toyotafinancial.com/con...e&_pageLabel=pg_newVehicleComparisonChartPage). Toyota prepaid maintenance at $875 for the 4 year/ 55,000 mile Premium Plan. MSRP $1355.
No, I did not buy the extended warranty. It seems that I do not have to worry about it until after 3 years. Do people usually get the extended warranty?
I saw your post and the answers you got in the other post. It was very helpful. Please let me know how your call goes.
I paid $1180 for the same deal. Oil change every $5k including the 15k 30k and 45k mile check ups for four years. They initially offered it at $1495, but was able to haggle it down to $1180. I thought it was a good deal seeing how synthetic oil changes are around $80 after taxes. (this was at Cerritos Power Toyota btw) I thought it was a good deal at $1180, what are your thoughts?
I almost got haggled into the extended warranty on a Certified 2010 prius with 3400 miles...then we talked to our local foreign import repair shop that we've been going to for 19+ years, and they told us extended warranties are double dipping on a car that is very unlikely to break. Plus, we've also had problems with extended warranty companies going bankrupt and closing down and not giving us our money back.
No argument with your feeling about extended warrantees but, for the record, the warrantee sold here on Priuschat is backed by Toyota so your concern about "bankrupt and closing down" does not apply here. Happy New Year! :mod:
