A few months ago, I started doing my own maintenance on my 2010 and 2006 Prius. I use Mobil 1 0W20 and am rotating my tires and changing the oil and filter every 10,000 miles. Mobil 1 makes an extended life oil filter for the 2006 Prius, but not the 2010 Prius. For my 2010 Prius, I am using a Purolator Classic L16311 oil filter.

Looking at what information we have from Toyota for the new 10K oil change interval, it appears as if the standard Toyota oil filter will be fine with a 10K interval. I would prefer to use a more robust oil filter, such as a Mobile 1 filter, but for now, it doesn't appear as if one is available.

What are your thoughts on this?

    Thanks,
    Bryan

Early in life the Prius engine(s) put some particles in the oil. Later, hardly any, based on used oil analyses. But individual cases may vary especially if the engine air filter gets to permissive.

As a group I'd guess that they can run any good oil filter for 10 k. The only ways I know to be sure are to open the case and inspect the filter element (destructive testing) or to measure its pressure drop with an oil pumping apparatus (nondestructive). There was such a setup described at BobIsTheOilGuy once.

How about a filter change every "10 years or 100,000 miles"? Here is the website.
IMO that might be stretching it just a bit....
