I wish my dealer told me that my 05 Prius had a new lock put into the car. Now I can't open it manually but only electronically. Can't contact the dealer. Any suggestions?

For anyone in the northern state of Delaware tri-state area, “Jonathan†at Price Toyota really knows the Prius well. Helpful, excited about it, and no pressure. Pleasant experience.

Good idea, Mike. My first attempt at buying the car was futile as the dealer never did submit an order. The second dealer was much better, although they didn't have much experience with the tech package. The car is complex enough that they should have an experienced rep go over a checklist before you leave. And, that should include actually using the parking assist function.

I recently bought a 2010 Prius III with Navigation and the JBL sound system. I am a musician, I learn music while I drive and I specifically asked if there was connection for mp3 player. I specifically refused the IV package because it had USB connection and I couldn't see the point of it. I did my deal and came to pick up the car and found out that all new models have USB. USB connection is a much less convenient way to nagivate music on an ipod; also, I have an iphone, and the results are very confusing when I plug into the USB jack. I get messages on my phone saying it is not a proper accessory for iphone; then I get messages saying that the ipod cant be read ( on the car display screen).

There is no info on the USB in the manual; the guy who sold me the car really doesn't know what's going on....it works better with my daughter's ipod classic, and I am just about to propose that the dealership buy me one. They really didn't tell me about the USB jack being compulsory until after I made the deal....and they had no idea that it doesn't work well with iphone.

Anyone else out there having iphone compatibility problems?

Got no idea how to fix the problem but why not just connect thru the Blue Tooth?

The alarm kept going off in our 2010 Prius IV. If you get out of the car and close the doors, e.g. in your garage after arriving home, but then return to retrieve something from the trunk or back seat, opening any door will set off the alarm. Unless you have the key fob with you, the alarm will sound until you return to turn it off. Why do I want the alarm to go off if I open a door that I intentionally didn't lock? You have to use the 'keyless' fob to turn off the alarm or to prevent it, use the fob to 'unlock' the doors even though they are already unlocked. we had the dealer disarm this 'passive' feature to the alarm system. Now--we hope--it will only function when someone intrudes and seeks to enter the car when it's locked. But when we enter our car unlocked we don't need an alarm!! If we leave the car unlocked in public and someone seeks to intrude--that's our fault. Absent that, it doesn't make sense. Have others faced this?

I wish the dealer told me that the PA DEP offers a $500 rebate on hybrids. Luckily a friend with a Prius let me know.

    Cressman,

On mine, right next to the USB is a 1/4" jack for the AUX input. When I get fed up with the interface on the USB, I just use a M-M patch cord and run it through the AUX input instead.

    I have a II 2010.

That the car beeps incessantly when in reverse and that the lights neither come on or off automatically. Kind of a contradiction in terms re safety.

I know the beeping can be reduced to one by taking the car in but that is annoying in itself. As for the lights I haven't seen any answers except spend more money.

What "lights" are you referring to?

I have had it 3 weeks and still need to learn stuff! Maybe it's my age . . have trouble with new things:) Do they have a new owner class? Wish the dealer told me you didn't have to have it in one of the three modes. Like Jack66 I need visuals. I finally finished the manual (600 pages!) but found the DVD to be the most helpful. Still don't understand the heating/a/c -- used to a dial :), and having trouble with the locks. Haven't seen anyone mention how it is taking time to adjust. I have left it running when leaving - good thing it beeps at me! Had a really basic Corolla for the last 5 years so this is quite a change. I'm still a bit afraid of it. My little spaceship. Thank goodness for Prius Chat. Been here for hours trying to find stuff . . .so much info! If there is Q & A for new "clueless" owners, could someone direct me. Haven't had luck searching. Maybe I'm not smart enought for this car!

Fun to constantly find new things. Love the light on the shifter!

My dealer tried to do the exact same thing. I bought a 2010 prius certified with 3400 miles on it. The Certification already extends the waranty anyway. They also tried to sell us a "protection package" that prevents ice and chips and protects paint...basically they coat your car in plastic. They asked $1199 for it, which I'm glad we didn't get it because snow tires ended up costing just as much with the Tire pressure monitor sensor!

I am also still learning the locking system and the push button start. I frequently walk away from the car with keys in my pocket! I really love that it unlocks itself for me when I pull the handle. NO MORE FUMBLING FOR KEYS!! YAY!!

the dealer told me almost nothing about my car. They didn't know anything about ECO mode, or what it was for. They didn't know how to use the Nav and told me I'd have to figure it out. I didn't even know if my car was front wheel drive or all wheel drive (and neither did they). Also, I didn't get a certificate for my 4,500 rebate on my taxes, which I didn't know I even needed till my CPA told me. He said the dealership was supposed to have given it to me. :(

I love the car very much, but wish I knew more about it!

I do not like the pull cover in the back. It is a pain and gets dirty with my hubbys grubby hands pulling it. I like how my old VW had one that lifted up with the hatchback when you opened it. So far that is my only complaint.

The car is definitely different. I wish he'd told me how to lock the doors. I've been using the key fob to lock them all week, but now that I watched the DVD, I know that I just have to touch a certain part of the door handle.

I wish he showed me how flat tire repair works. Now that I reviewed the procedure, I've learned that if you have a flat, the tire won't fit in the well that holds the temporary tire. This means putting a filthy tire on the carpet. I now keep a pair of gloves and a large trash bag tucked with the spare tire in case I need to fix a flat. I suggest everyone do the same.

Can someone tell me what the SKS is? And tell me how I can unlock all doors simultaneously, not just the front ones. Bought a pre-owned 2007 Prius last July. Love it!

SKS is the Smart Key System, which allows you to open the doors and start the car with the key in your pocket.

I just traded my 2007 in on a 2010 so I don't have the owner's manual anymore. If your 2007 came with the manual you can look in it to find how to change the key from unlocking only the driver's door to unlocking all doors.

On the 2010 you press both the lock and unlock buttons on the keyfob at the same time, and hold until the car beeps at you. It may be the same for the 2007.

Try performing the easy steps BEBOYLE mentioned.

A couple of years ago, I posted these steps:
This is for my '07 TCH:
On the TCH, opening the Driver's door w/ Smart Key System, unlocks only the Driver's door. The customization allows opening the Driver's door to unlock all doors. This can be done by the user: (Caveat: I don't know if this works on Prius Smart Key models.)
With POWER off and FOB within 3 ft of front door: on FOB, press LOCK button and either ALARM or UNLOCK button simultaneously and hold for five seconds. Answer of 2 beeps means that all doors will unlock. 3 beeps: Only driver's door. Settings will change every time you perform this procedure.
