I have heard that it is because our lanes are narrower than in other countries. But Mercedes, Volvo & BMW have it on cars in this country. Would it be possible to have the feature added aftermarket, considering the wiring may already be in the car & I already have Radar Cruise Control?
I don't know if it would be possible to have the Lane Keep Assist (LKA) installed aftermarket. However, the LKA feature does not use the radar from the Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) feature. It uses a camera which is mounted above the rear view mirror. In the United States Toyota bundled the DRCC and LKA into the Advanced Technology Package, but they are really independent systems. Of course, they share the same display screen on the Multi-Information Display.
Information I recieved when at the media launch was the lane markings in Australia were not compliant with what LKA needed to function.
In Japan, we also can't get the LKA option on the JP Prius. However, we can get it on other cars, such as Estima Hybrid. I don't know why. Ken@Japan
I don't think US-MPG is all that useful as a marketing tool here, we use the international system of measurement, maybe you have heard of it? It is called metric. When we did use gallons we used the big full size gallons, not the tiny toy ones from the USA. How ever this would, if we still used gallons, which we haven't since I left school back in 1977, then the Prius would get 62.5 MPG here. Yeah, we have 2 roads in the country with lanes, that is 50% of our roads. Unfortunately the koalas and kangaroos don't get lanes so lanes aren't much good when the kids are riding to school on koalas and kangaroos in the morning.
I barely ever look at th HUD even though it is on all the time - am always looking at the multi information display. Its as if I have forgotten I have HUD
But you can get the HSI on the HUD... unless you're looking at the Energy Monitor or the Consumption Screen.
Hey, don't give up TPM! You might regret it if you ever have need of it I had a slow leak in my passenger side back tire that would have turned into a flat in a couple days if I hadn't been warned by the TPM. Never knew about this feature till I saw the light on the dash. Very nice. I don't mind not having LKA here in Canada, but I have to admit, I also really wanted the HUD... We should lobby Toyota for a Super Prius with all features included! I know, I know, MPG would suffer, it would be really expensive, etc...
