Can you imagine working for a company that has a little more than 500 employees and has the following statistics?: 29 have been accused of spousal abuse 7 have been arrested for fraud 19 have been accused of writing bad checks 117 have directly or indirectly bankrupted at least 2 businesses 3 have done time for assault 71 cannot get a credit card due to bad credit 14 have been arrested on drug-related charges 8 have been arrested for shoplifting 21 are currently defendants in lawsuits 84 have been arrested for drunk driving in the last year If you are still interested in working there, the "company" is Congress.
If "pro" is the opposite of "con", what is the opposite of "progress"? On the other hand, it beats monarchies, dictatorships, or any other form of government. The electorate gets the government they vote for! (or if they can't be bothered to vote, the current example)[/font:c4a1ebc74e]
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Hybrid_Dave\";p=\"104484)</div> Sounds low to me. Have to wonder if that's because the vast majority who have not been so accused is a result of an inability to fill in the blanks....or sign their names......or both.
Read more details here: http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/outrage/congress.htm And so that folks outside the US can play along: In 2001 the e-mail about U.S. Members of Congress was remade into a Canadian form of it: [Collected on the Internet, 2001] Can you imagine working for a company that has a little more than 300 employees, and has the following statistics: 30 have been accused of spousal abuse 9 have been arrested for fraud 14 have been accused of writing bad checks 95 have directly or indirectly bankrupted at least 2 businesses 4 have done time for assault 55 cannot get a credit card due to bad credit 12 have been arrested on drug related charge 4 have been arrested for shop lifting 16 are currently defendants in lawsuits 62 have been arrested from drunk driving in the last year Can you guess which organization this is? It is the 301 MPs in the Canadian Parliament! Some of the versions in circulation of the Canadian form of the e-mail assert the information came from The Ottawa Citizen, which is the newspaper in Canada's capital city, Ottawa. That tidbit is wholly false — The Ottawa Citizen never ran such an article. Another country that has had this e-mailed list applied to it was India: [Collected on the Internet, 2000] Can you imagine working for the following company? It has a little over 500 employees with the following statistics: 29 have been accused of spousal abuse. 7 have been arrested for fraud. 19 have been accused of passing bad checks. 117 have bankrupted at least two businesses. 3 have been arrested for assault. 71 cannot get credit or loans due to bad credit histories. 114 have been arrested on drug related charges. 8 have been arrested for shop-lifting. 21 are current defendants on various lawsuits. In 1998 alone, 84 were stopped for drunk driving. Can you guess what organisation this is? Give up? It is the 545 members of the Lower House of Parliament of India that work for me and you. The same group that cranks out hundreds upon hundreds of laws designed to keep the rest of us in line...
You've gotta love Snopes.com....I do the same thing to my mother in law whenever she forwards those stupid emails to my wife about lead poisoned lipstick, and the lowlifes that will attack you at gas stations after asking to borrow 5 bucks  I just send her the direct snopes link now, without even bothering to send her an explanation....she has since stopped with forwarding all the emails that usually end in: be sure to pass this along to all your girlfriends, mothers, wives, friends, co-workers. That alone at the end of an email trips off the alarms.
Thank you, at least all of you had a better sense of humor about this political satire thread than the other radical right supporters did in my "Red States" thread here on HOP.
the bad checks seems very low to me. the national average is higher than that. but i almost choked when i saw the DD stats. that is pathetic.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Hybrid_Dave\";p=\"104568)</div> I'd missed that thread - I just took a quick glance at the first page, and I see what you mean! Some folks seem to be fairly humor impaired it seems. Here, this is what they need!
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Hybrid_Dave\";p=\"104568)</div> Personally, I think it would be a much funnier if you cut the number of employees in it by about half and changed the company from "Congress" to "the Democratic members of Congress". Then it'd be a hoot!
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Marlin\";p=\"104723)</div> Scoundrels have no party allegience. Can you say, "Tricky Dick"? You listen to too many dope fiends.[/font:236de91515]
Here we go trying to turn THIS thread into a political thing. Give it a rest, will ya? We're all tired of it. Just enjoy the funny.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(galaxee\";p=\"104818)</div> Thank you Galaxee...you're right, but you will never convince the rabid dogs of that fact...let the right wing have their way with it...it seems to have lost it's original intention anyways, but I'm glad you recognized it for what it was....and Greyskye, that windows pop up is a class act....love it!!!! Dave.
