We've had an unusual cold spell here in California the last two days. This morning, with temps in the low twenties, I decided to hit that heated seat button below the center console. ahhhhhh.....nice. I did notice that it warms up, then cools down, warms up, then cools down...is that normal behavior for heated seats? I've never had them before.
I would have to confirm that's the way mine works as well. It appears to cycle which is really nice. In other cars with variable selections you have to turn them down, but this seems to cycle so I am assuming that's why we only have a ON or OFF functionality. All in all they heat quick and are quite nice....Remember to baste while turning!
Yeah, our other car (embarassingly, an '04 Yukon), has heated seats that have many settings for both the seat only, or the seat plus the seat back. Low, medium, and high for each. But I am pretty sure its a constant heat rather than a cyclic thing. I am sure the way the Prius is set up is to save juice. Once you are up to temperature, you just need to maintain. Just like driving speed.
Did you use that line on that "lesbian"? I pulled my panties down silly. I don't understand why I have an "opposite" tan line though...
A...hem... Getting back to the thread, my hot butt tonight at 8 degrees F on the way home was nice, although with only a 1.5 mile commute, it wasn't long enough to experience the heater recycling. Also, has anyone noticed the ice melting off their side mirrors? Supposedly, the mirrors are heated up when the seat heaters are on.
Interesting. On the Gen II, the side mirror heaters come on when the -- I almost hate to say it -- rear hatch glass defroster is turned on.
That is why I tinted my back window. That kind of activity should not be subject to public viewing... I never liked heated seats much. The ones in my friend's BMW get way too hot and burn my tush. Maybe I just don't have enough insulation?
I had heated seats on my Volvo and never used them either. I think a more plausible explanation of why you and I don't like heated seats is that our @sses are naturally hot (they're real and they're spectacular).
seats run on a on/off cycle like 10 on/ 5 off or something like that. it has been in single digits here for the past 4 days (normal low is the mid to upper 30's) so ya, its been real nice. current temp 10.8º
The seats aren't on any set cycle. There's a thermostat built-in to the heating element to engage up until a certain temp, then shut off. This allows the unit to be flexible in a wider range of temperatures - i.e. still be effective in colder weather with a longer "ON" cycle, and not overheat or burn the occupant in "warmer" weather with a shorter cycle.
David you need to turn on the Rear Defogger to get the side Mirrors to Warm...They are NOT controlled by the seat warmer switch..
