Hi everyone, I'm currently looking at an 2004 prius here at a So Cali dealer. However, i ran the VIN and it shows that i was originally an Arizona car (lease return) where this dealer then bought it at an auction. My questions is whether the state of CA's extended battery warranty will apply in this situation? I know the battery has a warranty of 100k miles, but in CA they extend it to 150k? Any help would be appreciated as I'm hoping to get into a hybrid in the next few. Thanks so much!
Interesting question. If it was me I'd make the 150k warranty part of the deal requirements and get it in writing from the SoCal dealer.
I believe that Arizona is not one of the states that adopted the California emissions standards, so the hybrid battery for this car will be warrantied for 96 months/100,000 miles (and not 120 months/150,000 miles as in California).
Yes, I believe Tom is correct that you would get the 8 yr / 100k warranty because the car was originally sold in a non-California emissions state.
