I got an iPhone last month. So far, I haven't purchased a case or a screen protector. I've done some research and have a front-runner but wanted to hear from my fellow iPhone/Prius owners. How do you protect your iPhone?

Here's the case I'm currently leaning towards. I like the black except for the red button. Runner-up is the white.

I have not been able to put a cover over the phone. I don't want to add bulk to it, and I really like the look of the phone as is. I have put a protective screen cover over it. I forget the name, but it is expensive. They advertise is as the coating that is put on helicopter blades. It has done the job for me, protecting the phone from scratches. I have no protection should I drop the phone!

Your front runner is priced right, and it looks to be pretty thin. If the case is too sticky, I wouldn't go for it, because I like to be able to put it in a pocket and retrieve it easily.

I don't really like that red button, either. Is there a chance you can get the case with a different color button? Black, perhaps?

Since when has that ever deterred anyone from posting?

Damn rich people. You probably use it to keep in touch with your hedge fund. This is why we need a revolution.

On the case, I can't see how the volume buttons are molded. One reviewer indicated that the case makes the buttons more difficult to use. What're your experiences?

Also, do you have a dock? Does this interfere with docking?

We started to use the iPhone with the case so I have little experience without the case. It does make the button somewhat harder, especially the power button. I push it down with my finger nail because I can't really tell if the button under is being pressed. The plus side is that the buttons are shielded from dirt and water.

We don't have the dock. The charger fits in the opening fine.

I just got the incase power slider case, which includes a battery that doubles battery life (but makes phone fatter). The regular thin slider case also works fine.

The iPhone isn't too big overall... yet some of the cases i've seen people put on it make it look like a brick. So for that reason, i went with a case with a velcro flap - you take the iPhone out whenever you want to use it.

Any kind of cover that makes the iPhone less smooth and slippery is probably a good thing.

Mine went in the toilet a few weeks ago. Nuff said.

The above screen protectors are the best, I did a lot of research. They last a long time and can be cleaned and reapplied. Test's done by some geeks showed that these were the clearest and blocked the least amount of light.

The case is IMHO the best it is thin, tough, easy on easy off, cleans easy, protects well (two drops to the concrete from 3 and 4 feet to the edges) and slides easily in and out of pockets but will grip to dash boards and car hoods. Buttons can still be felt but are a little more difficult to operate. BTW I left mine on my friends car and she drove 5.5 miles to a restaurant and it was still on the hood when she got there, it was on the down sloping part so she didn't see it while driving.

p.s. Dipena. girls have purses, guys have pockets if it is to sticky it's hard to get in and out of pockets, is your iPhone better now?

p.p.s. WHATEVER YOU DO DON'T GET LOOPT!! :nono: YOUR TXT BILL WILL RISE DRAMATICALLY AND YOU'LL WASTE ALL YOUR TIME TXTing OR RETURNING TXT's FROM YOUR FRIENDS!

    Thanks, Kow.
With your testimony, I'm investigating the CrystalSlip case.

    On the screen protectors:
Do you wet them to apply them? I've wondered about the ones you wet to apply. Specifically, how do you keep water/solution from getting into the phone speaker?

    On the case:
What is it that makes it so "grippy"?
And what is the bulge on the bottom-right of the back? I noticed it on all the colors.

Since I'm a little leery of ordering things off sites I don't know (and my wife is, which is more important) I was pleased to find both products on Amazon for the same price. At least we're both familiar with Amazon's policies.

The bulge? That may be an injection point for injecting plastic into the mold. Other than that I have no idea what it is for, LOL! The Crystalclear screen protector is put on dry but make sure the screen your putting it on is clean and dust free.

Sometimes it helps to put any screen protector on in the bathroom after running the hot water in the shower for awhile, the steam in the air helps reduce dust floaters.

As far as the case being grippy, I don't know what makes it so grippy other than the type of material. I do know that it has good reviews because many people don't like the softer silicon cases that are real sticky and hard to get out of pockets.

I think the screen protectors are a bit pricy but very very clear leading to little if any reduction in the brightness of your screen.

Be aware I only have experience with the screen protector in the clear style not the glare reduction style and I have the clear case and don't know if the color cases have the grippiness that the clear case has. Don't know why they wouldn't just letting you know.

    Good Luck

I use an Incipio Feather case that I got from the AT&T store for my iPhone 3G. It doesn't make it THAT MUCH thicker and heavier but it does nothing to protect the chrome (some care about that). It does make the phone a lot grippier.

I have no screen protector and haven't had any scratches on the screen (yet). I got my iPhone 3G in late December 08.

Personally it'd be nice if the case were transparent and the same thickness instead of being white (obscuring the black casing of the iPhone and the Apple logo).

I thought about Zagg InvisibleShield and did spend a $25 gift card + discount coupon I get to buy it but I haven't applied it (pain in the butt from the installs I've done on an iPod Classic and a 3rd gen Nano). I'm concerned that it'll peel and look crappy over time. Yes, they have a warranty, but that means removing it, sending it back, having to go back to case until replacement shows up and then going thru painful application process again.

I've found that the silicone cases, while nice and generally slimming, tend to tear often (especially in the corners--you will take it off and on to charge or dock it, etc.) I took it out only a few times, but still managed to tear mine. Dust and dirt also stick easily to them. The same goes for the soft rubber cases.

I have been a huge fan of the incase slider cases. They are sturdy and they do the job. If your wife has the newer iPhone 3G, I would definitely go slider since they are the only ones I know of that are selling a case that has the rubberized feel on the hardcase. It's not sticky, but it is sturdier than most hard cases.

I have removed the Crystalslip case dozens of times from my iPhone and no problem yet. At $ 12.95 I think the price is right too! :yo:
