Got my windows tinted Saturday and the shop told me they don't do that little window because it's plastic. It bugs me to see two different shades of tint when I look out the rear view mirror. Anyone tinted this?
I have my windows all tinted but my shop also did not tint the window below the spoiler. My windows are 50% so they match up well enough that a difference is not noticeable. I could be wrong, but I think the small triangular windows in the front doors are also not glass, like the window below the spoiler. If they are, and are the same material, they tinted mine with no problem so I don't buy that they cannot do it.
The triangle front windows and the rear vertical spoiler window all are labeled "Temperlite" DOT-20, just like the side windows. Looks to me like Temperlite is Toyota tempered glass. Related posts:
Negative, I had airblue installed on all windows including the small one in the rear...I think he was trying to save the extra work. I'd be suspicious especially if it was an "all windows for one price" type deal
I had the little front windows tinted, but not the small read pane. I also had them add a strip across the top of the windshield (like an old-fashioned visor) - works great.
Hmmm, a window tinter that can't tell glass from plastic? Even if it was plastic, the glue on the film seams to stick to the plastic film OK, so what is the problem?
Hm... thanks for the responses. I think I'll go back when I'm back in town. It would be nice to see the same tint looking out the back. It looks fine from the outside. And to be fair, it was the woman at the front desk who told me they didn't do it because it's plastic, the owner/tinter didn't, although I would think she must've heard it from him, I don't know. I did really like the owner and the place, and they have been there for 26 years...
The tinter, I went to told me the back window & the little piece of plastic were already tinted. Is that true ? Either way, I still had him tint the window.
Mine's a Gen II, but my tinter (a good friend) didn't do the bottom hatch window because they have had trouble getting a good bond (they use 3M tint). That piece of glass seems to be coated with something, possibly related to the factory tint. If your shop has good luck with it, great! Yes, my upper and lower windows are different colors now, but the tint percent is about the same after doing the big back glass.
Glad you posted this. I thought I was crazy or it was how the window was as it did not look right afte rI had my tint done. I am not so bothered by it though. Cute babies! Pits raised with love can be awesome pets!
i recently purchased a 2010 prius iv and considering window tinting. i was wondering if you would recommend the shop you used and if so provide there name. always prefer to use people familiar with the car. i'm a former staten islander and now live in southern jersey so it's still very easy to get to back. thanks.
Yeah! Those two spoiled me for any other breed, pit bull is the only breed I ever want now. The most affectionate, devoted, sweet and hilariously goofy dogs you could ever meet. Unfortunately my car has a grey interior and since they were in the brown/tan family of colors I had to take them to the pound and get some blue pits. Just kidding! Those were my little babies but unfortunately they are no longer with us. Best dogs ever though, I still can't imagine having other dogs, I just want those two all over again. And now, back to your regularly scheduled posting...
Same here... The shop insist that the rear window below the spoiler are plastic in which prohibit them to show heat gun. therefore refused to tint that window for me as well.
When I got my windows tinted, he did them all except the small one under the spoiler too. Drove me BONKERS when looking out the rear window to have it be a different shade than the top hatch window. Brought it back and he tinted it free of charge Much better now.
When I picked up my 2010 back in June, the dealer had tinted all the windows for me, including the little window under the spoiler. It's been 5 months, 10,300 miles and NO covered parking (I have a carport, not a garage) and it looks the same as all the other windows. My suggestion: Check with the dealer. I'm not a proponent of going to the dealer for the things, but if you're unable to find a qualified tinter who can tint this window as well, you might want to consider the dealer. Mine looks perfect!
I just had mine all done a few weeks ago and they did all the windows except for that small one under the hatch. I forgot to look until I was home and didn't feel I cared enough to complain. I got 35% all the way around and it looks close enough to me.
I got mine tinted. He did it with no problem and gladly said yes when I asked. I had all the windows tinted at 35% and the rear piece under the spoiler at 50%. It matches pretty good. I didn't want the two tone effect.
