Finally picked up my Prius last night!! :D Been waiting since April!!

    She's soooooo nice, Silver Millenium.

My first "What the Heck is this" experience was this:
Had shut it down 3 times and it had 30 miles on it. Then I put it in IG-ON to close the windows and the theft deterent lamp started blinking for the first time. (why didn't it do so before?) So after finding out what this lamp was for..like the average joe (maybe not but anyway...) I was looking in the manual for how to get the light to go off (disable theft deterent) because its parked in my garage.

Though I realize its not a big deal for it to be on.. is there any procedure to disable the theft deterent? (I have no alarm and no SKS)

    heres another quick Question
Is there any way to manually select a radio station?? It appeared on my ride home last night that the radio scans and picks up only signals at a predetermined strength. Alas... I can not listen to my favorite station which only broadcasts around 30kw until I am in closer range to their transmitter.

    thanks... Al

BTW - I averaged 50.2 miles on my mostly uphill ride home! I'm impressed!

Was at 49.5 then I rolled downhill regenerating over about 1/2 mile and finished up the last 1/4 mile in EV to my driveway where the average then went up to 50.2! :p

Had mine for about 2 weeks now, 244 miles, just to work and back mostly, and averaging about 44mpg. I had hoped for more, but with break in adn showing it off to people I am sure that stop me from getting that great gas mileage. Hope to see better on my next tank.

Glad to see another NJ owner. I picked my '02 up about 2 weeks ago and love it. It only had 7,200 miles on it when I got it - looks like a new car.

A 2002 CLASSIC WITH 72 HUNN-RED MILES!!!!!! Was the previous owner afarid to drive it or something?

You lucked out!! More power to 'ya!!

I have a friend with a 2002, just spoke to him last night after I got mine.
He said his '02 is in for a recall something about the hybrid battery inter connectors and corrosion. They said they need his car for 3 days.... sounds a bit fishy....I do not know.

Maybe you should investigate...I'd say at least take a look at your battery. or call Toyota??? My buddy looked at his before taking it in and said it looked fine.

The original owner had that recall taken care of in December - it had to do with potential corrossion on the hybrid battery. The lady who owned the car lived in Morristown and only used it locally when they did not use her husband's car. Further, she has a home in Florida that they spend six months a year at - so the car just sat in the garage most of the time. It truly is in mint condition - everyone that sees it thinks it just came out of the new car showroom. So far we are averaging about 52 mpg with it, and '02 does not have as good an EPA estimate rating as the new ones, so I am quite happy. I think the EPA for it is 52 city and 45 highway.

When in Ig-On mode, lots of emergency lights come on.

The red light in the shape of a car with a key cut out of it is the immobilizer lamp, not just the theft deterrent. Even if you had the alarm, there's no way to turn it off without a Toyota scan tool, other than not to lock the car. Don't worry about the symbol.
By the way, you DO have the alarm in the car, but Toyota has it turned off when you select a package that supposedly doesn't include it.

As for tuning in a radio station, to the right of the head unit is a tuning knob. Don't feel bad, I got stung by that too.

Dan Man - thanks...you're to good!

I just got back from a drive and was thinking I should get the dumbest  question award for not seeing the depressed radio tuning knob.

But Hey! When you first get a prius you do exactly like they say "Just Drive IT"! :D

So... I wonder...have any of you techies been able to enable the alarm system on a vehicle which supposedly hasn't got an alarm?

Not without a toyota scan tool.
