Just signed the papers for a Blue Ribbon package IV w/solar and remote engine starter. Discount: $1,531 below MSRP. Received info from 3 dealers in the Northeast that participates in Overstock.com Auto Program. The dealer I chose gave me a price of $400 above invoice. The car is being delivered to my house from their allotment in the end of November. Couldn't be any easier! Would do the same again when we will be purchasing a hybrid SUV in a few years.

Philadelphia Suburbs. This forum really gave me the heads-up regarding Overstock.com advantage. Thank you all! Can't wait until it arrives in our driveway!

Most of the dealers want MSRP here in NC if you just walk into the showroom. I went through the Kelley Blue Book internet quote service this week and paid $1000 under MSRP for a Prius IV with Nav. But I had to pay $499 "documentation fee" on top of that! All the dealer in NC charge $300 to $500 to do the paperwork. I think it's to offset South East Toyota's distributor administration fee ($700-$800). What a rip!

Paid $900 under MSRP in California on Oct 31, which was about $350 over invoice.

A Package III w/NAV stickers at 26,180. The invoice is 24,043. $900 under MSRP is not $350 over invoice.

We bought ours in the C4C program in August. We got nothing off sticker. It was the last one they had on the lot at that time. We were lucky to find one at all.

    Not sure (III):

    MSRP: 23,400 + 200 (floormats) + 69 (bumper sticker) + ("handling") 750 = 24419

Paid: 23795 + 55 (doc prep fee Wth?) = 23850 (not including sales tax, DMV, etc)

Note to self: don't car shop with wife...

I'd be curious to know what the real MSRP and invoice are for this car.

It's hard to say how much I saved on my Prius V with AT. I got $250 off of MSRP. However, for the Infiniti I traded in, CarMaxx appraised it at $28k and this very same dealer offered $28k for it 3 months ago when I ordered my Prius. When my Prius arrived, they offered $31500 for the Infiniti. So I view this as a $3500 extra savings.. who knows though. I could have probably sold the car for $30k, so I'd go with $2k off is more realistic.

On top of that, I negotiated with them to lower my trade-in from $31.5k to $28k in exchange for taking $3500 of the Prius' sale price. This smart thinking saved me an additional $105 in state sales tax. Something you should think about when negotiating.

Just ordered a Goldie, IV, leather, upgraded radio, etc., includes mats, but no Nav or sun/solar roof. Got $400 off MSRP. No doc fees or extras. Many of the dealers in my area are still adding $1000 worth of extras onto the price. I chose to order from the dealer closest to my house (and place of business).

I just bought my mom a 2010 Prius III with Nav. Package for $25,000 at Big Two Toyota in Phoenix, AZ. "Power Toyota" which is part of AutoNation offered to sell me the same car for $26,400 and then lowered it to $25,700 when I called them on it. Bottom line, I love Big Two's straight on pricing approach and hated the Power Toyota approach which, in my case, only lowered the price when I told them they were charging too much for the car. Power Toyota also told me they had the only Prius III w/nav in the region which was false given that I bought my car the same day from a dealer that was a few miles away!

Help, I'm in austin, TX and no one seems to be discounting off of MSRP. Can you buy the car from anouther state? I did put a refundable deposit down on one, so that I can get it, but have some time to negotiate with the other dealers. I just tried overstock.com but sent it to 3 of the same dealers that quoted me msrp. Is there any tips/tricks that you would use?

I went to Overstock.com and got a reply for a Prius IV with solar roof and blizzard pearl for $400 over invoice. However, I pried the guy for more info and it turns out they also add a $499 "dealer fee" onto the price. That sounds like simply additional markup (profit) to me. So this looks like a $900 over invoice offer.

Do all Toyota dealers add on some kind of fee like this?

It's called the "doc. fee" and it ranges from $199 to $499, maybe higher. It's pure dealer profit and one would be wise to ask at the time of negotiations what the dealership charges and take the amount into consideration with one's offer to them. Watch out for other (added) fees as dealerships are getting very creative along those lines.
