In August 2021, my gas tank started leaking. I paid a mobile mechanic $100 just to get under my car and show me a blurry picture of a few tiny holes in the tank and tell me I'll have to replace the whole thing and it'll cost about $1000.

I started researching car stuff for the first time ever, bought myself some jack stands and dusted off the scissor jack that came with my car. I fixed the leak for $7 using Quicksteel.

Then I took out the backseats, built a shelf and sleeping platform there, and totally loved this whole car customization idea. I got into ChrisFix's car detailing videos and a bunch of other car Youtubers.

The leak came back worse than ever after a month, but at that point I was determined and had confidence to fix it. Luckily, a maintenance man saw me the day I got under my 2011 Prius to remove the tank and he had some tools I was lacking and some know-how I was also lacking. But I provided some know-how as well. We made a great team and got it out, then I fixed the tank and put it back in by myself.
