mil646 Some engines are content to slug it out with freight cars in the yards at low speeds, and rarely if ever get out on the road to "blow the carbon out" of the stacks. The diesel-electric works fine in this setting as well. Milwaukee Road 646, an SW-1200 ("SW" for "switcher"), was built in 1954 and produced 1200 HP. Seen here, it is working the yards at Milwaukee.
