Added moisture indicator to low and high hoses on my manifold gauges. As you can see the one on the left low side has a green dot in the sight glass for dry when I started on this car. The one on the right is yellow for moisture in the refrigerant when I connected this hose to the cars a/c system . It only took about 1 min to start turning from green to yellow. When I tested the refrigerant with my analyzer it also showed 3.1% air mixed in. YES! again this job was done by a shop and again this is one of those low life shops who believes in putting in a/c leak seal in all the cars so they do not have to explain to the customer why the car leaked out the refrigerant after they payed to have it recharged. Of course it not because they are too cheap to buy a good leak detector, or even have one at all. Even if they had one most do not even know how to properly use one and do not like the time it takes to do it right. It dose not help when they only preform a 5 min vacuum or have refrigerant contaminated with air and moisture. To top it all off with a cherries on top, that leak sealant decided to seal inside the a/c system and plug the orifice tube that in return restricts the return of refrigerant flow for cooling of the compressor and oil return. SO!? who ends up paying for all this? the customer or the so called shyster shop that did this. A cleanup and replace every thing job like this can easily become a $2500 to $3000+ job. I'd tell the customer to report the shop to the Better Business Bureau, Go to small claims court, DO NOT LET THEM REPAIR THE CAR !!!... post it on Twitter, YELP, Face Book, and any other local net work or chat, a small local news paper add, post the photos of the damage, photos of the hardened a/c leak sealant in the pipes and orifice tube or expansion valve. I see this more and more now-a-days, with the DIY's and repair shops looking for the cheap easy fast money fix. A?C leak sealant is like a gun, the gun or bullet dose not kill any body, ignorance does!. If you fully understand how A/c leak sealant works and read all the instructions , not just on the box or the can some times more detailed instructions are folded up in the box or around the can or on the manufactures web site or vary small print on the can or box. Some say you MUST! replace the receiver dryer or accumulator or dryer sock. Because that type of sealant hardens when exposed to MOISTURE, The other type of sealant hardens when exposed to AIR!. the TWO things I find a lot of in a car a/c system after they have been serviced by do it fast and cheap shop. I will post photo later in my album on maintenance and problems of the harden a/c sealant. These are the same shops that damage customers transmissions, power steering pumps, radiator, heater core and cooling systems when they repair them (so called) or service then from lack of knowledge and or just being CHEAP! at the consumers expense in the long run. PROTECT YOUR PRIUS do not lat a shop use a a/c leak sealant. If it is used it should only be by YOUR consent and fallow the A/c leak sealant manufacturers instructions, all of them step by step. I do not condone the use of a/c sealants but only in some situations fully explained to the customer and the customer needs to tell the next shop that will work on the cars a/c that it has a/c leak sealant in it.
