Did you follow the instructions? 1. Pull the passenger seat back lever twice 2. Turn the dome light switch on and off 3. Get out of the car and do the chicken dance 4. Loosen the positive battery cable with a wet rag 5. Push the door lock button with your nose
Hmm.... cause if you watched my VSC demo video, you'll hear two beeps - one is the VSC and the other one comes on later when I apply the e-brake.
I use the parking brake when i park. If i go start my car without releasing the parking brake it makes no beeps warning me i'm tryig to drive with the parking brake on.
Odd, once in drive, I found the car will beep if I put my foot on the parking brake pedal enough to activate the brake switch.
Thanks for the info. I guess I need to open the cover and see for myself. What is a frame number and why would it be something that they would have to build a cover for?? I thought it was covering the fuse box or something!
I tried this sequence -- still couldn't get the cover off. I guess I'll never find out what the frame number is.
Gary, they've only been available in the U.S. (few models) for a short time ... even shorter than you've owned. Edit: whoops, I see htmlspinner already answered with almost the same answer. .
i haven't tried pushing down on the parking brake when in drive. I do know in my car i can lightly apply the parking brake, there is a warning light on the dash that says BRAKE but i can put it in gear and drive no beeps are heard. I have the reverse beeps disabled.
On the MID screen, there is a red dot to the left of the name on all but the Settings screen that has no discernible purpose!!!
You're not applying the parking brake then. Just because the light is on doesn't mean the parking brake is applied. IT depends on how taut your parking brake cable is. Try it. Apply the parking brake lightly until the light comes on then put the car in D and let the car creep. The car will move forward.
Is there a USB-only upgrade kit that is not the $200 iPod/USB kit? Can one add the USB port with only the correct cable and wiring it into an existing (used or unused) connector? Is the internal software already USB-aware? If not, how is that part of the upgrade handled?
The simplest resolution to a runnaway engine/car, is to Pull and "HOLD" the Gearshift into the Neutral position for two (2) seconds (pull the gearshift towards your right leg until it stops, and hold it there for 2 seconds). This will retain the HSD (which will permit power for the steering and brakes), with the engine power being reduced to idle. We just returned from experimenting with this procedure, and it works FLAWLESSLY! My wife accelerated from a stop, held the throttle to the floor, pulled and held the gearshift into "N", and held it there for 2 seconds. At that point, even though the engine was at full song, engine RPMs went to idle and the Power Steering and Brakes still had full assist, so if this had been an emergency, the car could have EASILY been brought to a calm, uneventfull and FULLY controllable stop. David (aka Blind Guy)[/QUOTE]David, thanks for this good information. I have a G2 Prius, and the owners manual says that if you push the P button while driving the transaxle is automatically shifted to "N." I wonder if this wouldn't be a better way to stop a runaway car as it might not take the two seconds that your experiment used. I have not tried this. Craig
I know that, but i would think the same sensor that turns the light on in the dash should be the same one that would trigger a beeping noise to let me know the parking brake is on. I can apply the brake harder and still put it in gear and drive and there are no beeps to remind me the parking brake is on. If i apply the brake hard it will be very hard to get the car to move without releasing the parking brake, but if one apply's normal force and didn't notice the brake light on the dash. Or the added resistance they would drive away and fry the parking brake with no beeps!! Someone posted there was beeps to remind you to turn off the parking brake. My main point is my car will let you ride the parking brake and not beep to let you know your driving with the parkig brake on.
Then what was the extra beep in my video? HTMLSpinnr said his beeps too. I'll try and remember to test it out again over the weekend. There were two beeps in the video. If it wasn't the parking brake then what could it be? The VSC is already beeping and the only thing different that I did was applying the parking brake to induce a spin.
You don't have to be in Park and pulled off the road to use the touchscreen to set up Destinations. You can do so when just stopped at a traffic light/sign. If you need to roll before you finish, the screen just ghosts out, but will return to the screen you were just at, when the car stops rolling at your next signal/stop.
The solar panel equipped Priuses are 15mm taller Oh and you lose 30mm of front headroom to the moonroof the solar panel moonroof combo weighs 30kg.
