Renault Dauphine. Drove one 35 years ago--first car. Last saw one 19 years ago, at a distance in the New Mixico desert.
The GM HX3 Hybrid Mini-Van, circa 1990: This one gets a wry, tell-me-it-ain't-so smile... just shy of a grimmace. More info here: 1990 GM HX3 Hybrid Van
I actually like it! But I believe our Prius looks a lot like the "cars of the future" I used to read about in the late '60's and early '70's, and this van even more so. Does anyone remember the AMTronic model from the 1970's? We were supposed to be driving vans that the front disconnected to become a city run-about, powered by gas turbine hybrids, ultra-low-profile tires, and guide by wire on the interstates: AMTronic (Be sure to click through to the "about" link on the above page)
I've never seen this car (actually kind of ugly), but I enjoyed the story ... When a car model could be called "Sport." Collecting - Unrequited Longing for the 67th Volvo Sport - NYTimes.com
i borrowed a college professore 82 honda civic hatchback. it had manual and was a blast to drive. 35 city 47 highway
I can see why everyone loves the car. Road rage against that little cutie would be like kicking a puppy.
Gen I Fiat 500 I recently saw one of these little gems in the Ruxton section of NE Ballamer, at the Joppa Road/Bellona Ave intersection. Interestingly, one just sold on ebay. Lots of interesting details. Many new parts, only 24K miles in 40+ years. Claimed 50-60 MPG! Four more days on this blue one.
Apparently its' Cadillac that gave us the familiar layout of controls in cars we use today, before then things were all over the place.

One of the reasons I keep going back to Caddy is they want the passengers & the driver happy when they motor down the road... sorta like Bentleys... except not as rare, not as expensive, and not as pricey to repair...
Dammit. I HATE what Flickr has done to photo sharing!!! It's Plaid! | Flickr - Photo Sharing! I can't post it as a link anymore. oh, hold on, I'll upload a thumbnail instead...
IIRC, the trend setters/fashion Nazis back in my high school days would insist that, "It is a windowpane plaid, you ninny." I never was/have been a clotheshorse. Whoa! It has been said that my favorite jacket looks like an old horse blanket.
Here's one that rate's at least a grimmace: a strange car from 1932 France, the Helicron, a car/aeroplane hybrid: Yes, it actually works: Click to enlarge --> A contemporary replica:
