Wireless key stopped and dealer tried to reprogram computer to fix it. Would not take new program. Went to total of 3 dealers before finding out that the antenna wire in the door was either shorting or came off connector. So, check that first before letting them take down your dash!

Oh.. thanks for the info. Sorry you had to deal with 3 different dealers. I thought 1 was bad enough. hehe

hmm. sounds like you'll be returning to dealer #3.

they really should know that there are pathways between the ECU and the smartkey and they should check those rather than reprogramming and sending it back out the door

    Hi all,

Same problem here, remote suddenly stopped working last night on 2005 package #1, though the LED did light even before I replaced the battery. Now the remote LED lights but still no response from the car at all. Where is the receiving antenna (passenger door?) and is this something I can get at without removing the door panel?

    TIA

On your Prius there are three external antennas: 1) Driver's door, 2) Front passenger door, and 3) Hatch.

Try the others before you do anything drastic. Try your other fob. Make sure the SKS disable button under the steering wheel is in the enabled position.

OK, here's what fixed the problem with the remote key fob suddenly not working: I tried replacing the battery, still not working; tried spare key fob, worked; tried original fob again, this time and from then on, it works. Anybody have any idea what the issue was? I'll keep the spare close in any event. Thanks for the suggestions.

The rolling codes may have been out of sync. Sometimes it takes a few presses before the fob and car get back together.
