I am getting ready to do the first oil change on our '10 (IV) and I won't even get close to the dealership for this job. All safety checks will be done at home.

after my 1st oil change service on my 09 Prius, I checked my tires and they put 46 psi all the way around, I had them at 38 front and 36 rear.
    With friends like that......

For some reason dealers have always had a hard time with tire pressure in my experience...

Your right... but of all people that should get it right? They should do it by the book (or the car info in the driver's side door). Always makes me wonder what other things they do not do right.

They just don't look at the specs, and they air the tires really quickly and without any precision.

They also do the same thing so many times a day they just work on autopilot, which is why they never looked at the service order and saw that you didn't want your tire pressure adjusted. When the dealer used to service the Lexus I would always specify no wash, because whenever they washed it they always swirled it up. The service writer used to make a big sign and put it over the steering wheel "NO WASH" because the techs never looked at the comments on the service order. The guy who adjusts the tire pressure is not the same guy who rebuilds a transmission either...by the way.

One thing you have to realize is that most people aren't as precise as the people here are. Most people would never notice if one tire is 1/2 a pound higher than the other, and really and truly it doesn't make any difference.

Can you think of a story where a Toyota dealer ruined a car by doing something incorrect at a service stop? I can think of stories with Jiffy Lube...but not a Toyota dealer.

If you want that level of control over how the vehicle is maintained...you're probably only going to be satisfied if you do it yourself. Me? I just re-adjust the tire pressure when I get it back...no big deal.

+1. No one else cares as much about your car as you do.

Ever notice how the tire gauge you use cost over $10 and the one the mechanic uses is a $3 plastic stick type.
