Fake "Vroom" for Hybrids

Trust me, the Japanese automakers already believe the average U.S. driver is a moron. And I have to agree with them most of the time.

Do you remember the seat belt buckle recall from about 10-15 years ago? Nissan was taking heat over the fact that crap was getting stuck in the seat belt buckles and impeding their function. Never had trouble with mine and never heeded the recall card sent to me. Nissan claimed that much of the problem was fast food, chips, fries, drinks and other detritus falling into the buckle opening. Considering the average obese American ordering several Big Mac's/fries/and the obligatory diet Coke from the drive thru, they were probably not stretching the truth. That didn't stop some girthy Americans from expressing their outrage though...

 

If I use a noise generator...it will be CRAZY FROG's imitation of a F1 racing car.

Or a MIC + Amp + outdoor speaker. So I can HISS through the MIC, make noise like in the original Police Academy & Spaceballs...can't remember the black guy's name, great sound maker. Helicopter...

From what I've seen the transmission is a planetary gear system and not a CVT, so has no belt.

 

Gen 1 and Gen2 have a "silent chain" to connect the PSD to the final drive differential , on the Gen 3 (I believe) they eliminated the silent chain and there is a gear to connect the PSD to the differential. There is no belt in either case.

 

That's cool. Of course the only really perfect tune would be the "Electric Slide".

 

Silent Drive chains are relatively strong. They're used in most GM transfer cases, so handle hundreds of foot pounds of torque in pick-ups. Not that ours is the same size, but it's an indication of the design. With CVTs that have the metal "push" belt, you can't put too much torque through it as it's an inherently weak design (thus the use in relatively low power drivetrains - not to mention scooters).
