Hi everyone, I'm on the wait list for a package II and I guess my time has come to get it. It's going to be really close to the Oct 18th price increase date. I think the car is coming into port before the 18th and I thought the price increase is based on that but then I'm hearing from others that the price increase takes place on the 18th regardless of when your car come into port. Which is it?!
Sorry, I don't have the answer and maybe someone can provide more details. When I was talking to the sales guys they won't guarantee whether I'll get hit with price increase if my deal closes after 18th. Luckily I don't have to wait to find out.
I think the increase is for cars that come into port either on or after the 18th of this month. If the car comes into port before the 18th it is my understanding it should not reflect the increase.
what price increase are youj talking about - the increase for nav/SR (due to USB, safety connect), or???/
All models (Prius II - V) will have a $400 price increase with cars arriving in port beginning October 18th. Seperate increase from the USB and Safety connect stuff... http://priuschat.com/news/prius-i-o...400-price-increase-insight-no-longer-a-threat
I know what the Prius Team reported in an earlier post recently but I believe the quickest way to find out what price you will pay is to have the dealer print a Vehicle Inquiry Report. The original MSRP Prius II will be Model Number: 1223A, The $400 higher price vehicles will be Model Number 1223C. This is the convention according to my dealer. (The 3rd price increase in the middle of a model year would be an "E".) My story: I ordered my Prius II on June 23 (without any port installations ie lower profit) and found out on Oct 1 that it was finally allocated to my dealer (I believe because the dealer finally had the zone rep get the allocation for me, because I asked the salesman to call the other dealers who had the color of car I wanted to make a trade. I gave 12 VIN's and phone numbers so he probably knew if he did not deliver soon I would go to someone else before the price hike.) By Oct 5 he had the VIN and told me it would be the old price. The Vehicle Inquiry Report says $22,000 + $750 and it is a 1223A. My dealer says some of the other cars are "C"s in the computer at this time. We made a sales contract for $22,750 before tax & doc fee, on Oct 6 and it is a closed deal except I only put $500 down and do not have the car yet. The dealer reported the state sales tax. My warranty and plates started on Oct 6 as if I had possession of the car. On Oct 6 there still was not a vessel named on the report and the salesman guessed it was probably still in Japan. I found out today that my car will be delivered to my dealer the week of Nov 1. It will come thru Portland. The VIN is almost at 067000. So I think the port arrival date might be after Oct 18 but yet I got the old price. Hope this info will give you some insight on your vehicle. I'm thrilled to get the old price cause I would have felt strange waiting 3.5 months to save $200 on floor mats I did not want and then having to spend $400 more for a car without floormats. The Prius Team's email on the Prius I really helped me out in getting the old price. Thank you!!!!!!!!
thanks for the info. but this assumes that i have more than one model to choose from?!?! i'm barely at this point getting the package and color combo i want. i called the dealer again and they said even if the car hits port before the 18th, which it's going to but their estimates, it takes 3-5 business days for them to get it and therefore the price hike will most likely apply. that's a bunch of hogwash if you ask me. but then what do i do? say i don't want the car and they'll happily go to the next person on their waitlist :-(
Sorry if I did not explain properly. I also only had one model and one interior and exterior color and was very specific on my requirements (no port installed options which is hard to do). The key is that if the dealer says they have your car coming that you need to get the VIN from them and have them print the Vehicle Inquiry Report for you. This way you can tell if you have a model number 1223A or a 1223C and also the MSRP will be listed on this same report. This way there is no fooling around on the dealers part in terms of changing the price at their whim, which I'm not sure they could do anyway since I believe the Monroney label comes from the port with the MSRP in print on the window.
No, wrong! Don't add to the.....Price Increase Confusion No, you are wrong. Sorry hon! Let me correct you. The "A" cars are old priced cars BUT there's a catch. Since the II (1223 model) never was re-classed to "C" when there was a change (USB or USB/Safety Connect in III, IV and V) the II's are going to read as "A" thru 10/18 anyway. All of the III, IV, and V thru 10/18 will show "C" as they already do. The post 10/18 arrivals at port will be either D or E cars. And, the II's will end up being C or they might even change them all to the D or E to remove confusion. Cars arriving at their respective ports after 10/18 will have the higher MSRPs on them. After all, that's where the MSRP's are added TO the cars...
I hope you'll consider calling me if they jerk you around. I have wonderful deals on III's with NAV/USB right now in silver, and with the pricing increase looming, a $500 discount = a $900 discount in theory post 10/18. Dianne
Hi Dianne, thanks! I think I'm getting a pretty good deal as it is, even if I do end up having to pay the extra 400 which I will be super bummed about!
I'm surprised that you had to go through all of this, just to get mats removed. I ordered a Prius ll in 8/09, and the invoice showed mats. I didn't want them and the dealer said it was no problem and he would deduct the price and remove the mats. I got my car on 9/1/09.
Just to cut to the chase, my dealership got my Prius from another dealership a few states away in a one for one stock trade. The other dealership wanted a IV in red. They already quoted a price of $26,000 for my black IV. This shouldn't change, even though they expect my car to arrive on their lot around the 25th? Edit: Sorry, I just saw paradox's post. Back to work!
Re: No, wrong! Don't add to the.....Price Increase Confusion Dianne, Thank you for clarifying. I was hoping you, or another dealer, or the Prius Team might chime in since I can only repeat what my salesman told me. But based on what you say that the MSRP is added at the port makes me wonder why my dealer was willing to give me the contract with the old MSRP of $22,000, on my 1223A, since the car is likely to arrive at port after Oct 18? At least I have a signed contract and I hope my dealer still doesn't pull a trick since I had to sign so many papers including not suing them.
Yes your right. If you go to the Prius site and build your car your will see that the usb is factor. about 400
I double checked with my dealership and they confirmed that if pickup of my car happens on or after the 18th of Oct that the 400 price increase will apply regardless of it coming into port prior to the 18th. ugh!!
I hope you get it before 18th or ask the dealer to take care of the price increase. Since you're waiting for the car you want, you really can't do much other than pray. Good luck.
Maybe you need to take Dianne up on her offer? Or you could try my trick and go to cars.com and search on all new 2010 Prius's below $24000 within the distance you select from your zip and find the cars with your color. Record the VIN's and dealer's phone #'s. (Some of these cars might be sold since the info on cars.com is not updated quick enough, but that is irrelevent.) Then call your sales person and tell them you really want to get the old price and ask in a nice way for them to call these other dealers by providing the VIN's and phone #'s to make a trade so you can get the car before the 18th. When I did this to my dealer (and I have been very nice to them for the 3.5 months I waited, with many promises of calls to the zone rep to get my car allocated and with many promises of calls to other dealers regarding trading, which in my area is hard since all the Prius's seem to sell quickly and at MSRP) I think they realized, with no threat from me, that I was likely to go to another dealer. So they finally got the zone rep to allocate my car and they locked in the old price for me even though the car is likely to arrive at port after Oct 18.
My car is coming in to port on the 18th and my dealer didn't mention anything about the price increase. I got a quote from them for how much I need to pay but they didn't sign it. Should I ask them to give me a sign quote?
