I am picking up my Prius V this weekend, and would love a head start from the individuals that went through the headache of finding the perfect settings for their stereo.

Please post what settings you have changed, and to where you set them.

I have failed to ever own a car with a great stereo from the factory, so I'm sure this one will be great to me regardless.

    Hi David,

There are several posts in the forums with plenty of recommendations (never any shortage of opinions on audio:))- but audio is also very much a "personal preference" thing. It's also very dependent on your own ears and hearing characteristics.

As for me, and in my IV, I've set a slight boost to the bass, and a slight shift in the fader toward the rear of the vehicle. (Many have said that the rear speakers are a bit weak). I also prefer a pretty bright sound, but the 0 treble setting is usually adequate, depending on what I'm listening to.

I've had lots of factory and aftermarket systems. I have to say, this is the best sounding factory unit I have ever owned.

    Enjoy your new V!!

Good luck and enjoy the new ride. I agree put the fade a little more to the back and boost the bass a little, mid 0, and a little on the treble. I love the streaming blue tooth!

I had to set the fade quite a bit to the back, otherwise it sounded like all the music was coming from my dash. I also set it to the left to provide a better sound for myself while driving. So far no passengers have had complaints.

Wow that makes me feel better. Back in my younger days (7 years ago ha) I had plenty of aftermarket fun, but you can only go through so much theft and headaches. I've been all stock since then.

Subaru STI (Horrible stereo)>VW R32 (much better but seriously lacking)>Toyota Prius V (We'll see)

I have always wondered why every stereo has a left to right fade..

Agree with priora - a very slight left balance adjusts the sound to appear directly in front of you. I sometimes do this too.

I will say that the FM reception capability is a bit weak - but I typically use CD or Aux (with mp3/ipod), and I will also be installing the USB interface, which your vehicle will probably come with. So FM reception isn't much of an issue for me, and I am not continuing the XM SAT service. I also use a portable HD Radio unit ($50 Insignia unit from Best Buy) through the Aux port, if I really want to listen to local radio.

I find that a +1 setting for midrange (and 0 for treble and bass) gives a nice "flat" response (eg: I hear all frequencies equally as well). With the default settings, I find that I have trouble hearing the vocals. I suspect the midrange is a bit weak because the speakers on the dash are good at higher notes, and the woofers on the doors are good for low ones. I'm very happy with my JBL's so far and glad I chose the premium package that included them.

I think the default it's a bit too sharp so that is why the vocal is a little hard to hear. I put my mid 2+, bass 1+ and treble 0

Weird, I don't remember that I can adjust the mid on my Prius...I have to check tomorrow morning...
Usually I boost the bass +2, hi +2, fader in the middle since the back speakers have no bass at all (it all relies on the front woofers) and bal slight to the right, but after what I read, I need to try to the left, to make it sound more centered on me ;)

It is as good as my GS 430 system. I just moved the adjustment front to rear just behind front seats in the adjustment diagram. Very impressive system for the money.

I am a bit of an audiophile and normally set the setting flat, but in the prius I put bass at +1 mid 0 treble +1 and the rears +4 as they are really weak and the soundstage is all up front otherwise.
Just my 2 cents. I have to say the syereo is way better than the 2005 prius, but Toyota's are horrible compared to my brothers acura. Why they can't make an upgraded stereo GREAT is beyond me.

I listen to alot of rock music. My settings are: Bass is set 2 under the max setting, Treble is set 2 under the max, and Mid is set at 2 over the mid point. I find I like these settings the best.

Thanks for the responses. I find my that my doors seem to rattle off and on like crazy, even if the stereo isn't loud. Passenger front, and drivers rear door to be specific. Pretty annoying since every car I've ever had has done this. Seems to depend on weather or temperatures. I'm wondering if a small amount of Dynamat would help the situation.

I have yet to try a CD or MP3, have only tried FM or XM. Is there a larhe improvement?

I checked again - on the EU Prius there is no setting for the "mid", only bass and treble can be adjusted. I have an 8 loudspeaker setup - no JBL system here, but mine sounds really good too - I wonder if the loudspeakers are the same and simply not branded to keep costs down (we have the heads up display HUD standard here in EU).
My settings are bass 0, treble +2 (with MP3s there is always a bit of loss - probably useless with CDs) and everything else to 0. ASL is set to mid.

Depends. For all settings, I have the sound faded to the rear (+2).

    For sat radio:
    bass: +2
    mid: +1
    treble: -2

    Radio
    bass: +2
    mid: 0
    treble: -1

    For CD:
    Bass: +3
    mid:+2
    treble: -2

    Aux: I don't remember

The CD setting I found was quite good for my classical music setup. Surprisingly it works well for general pop and hip hop so I left it. For Classical, I have the volume all the way up to 25 for a fuller sound. For everything else, I leave it at 8-10.

In my Prius the volumes goes all the way up to 63 (if I remember correctly) - at 45 is already pretty loud.

Yup that's why it stays at 8 for CDs and 10 for radio. 25 is only because the classical music I burnt onto the CD is quite soft... all of the tracks.

One thing I did notice is that the JBL speakers on the 2010 are able to pick out the "smallest" of sounds more easily than the JBL on our 2005.
