There seems to be just something loose in the passenger door because I hear a constant rattling/ticking on less good roads/bumps/... Someone an idea how it get the door panel off to take a closer look? My dealer is not a real big help in this...
I also experience the same rattle noise in the front passenger door but it appears that it goes away sometimes? Not sure, maybe it's just because I get used to it and don't even notice it anymore or my loud music masks it. Sometimes, I also hear some other rattle noises that comes from the back, not sure from where? While road/wind noise in the Prius is acceptable, the rattle noises are really annoying when I just need a peacefully quiet ride… I'm taking my Prius for the polemic 5K oil change next week and ask them to take a look at it but dealers don't usually fix rattle sounds in my experience.
You might be able to go to a car stereo site and find specific instructions on how to remove your door panel. I haven't had mine off, sorry. Try posting "how do you remove the door panel" in the audio section of the forum
I think this is what you need http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii...s/67089-removing-front-door-6x9-speakers.html
Quite a few others, including me, have a similar rattle. It is hard to locate as rattles often are. Sometimes it sounds like it comes from the dash. sometimes from the passenger door. Here is a thread discussing it: http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii-2010-prius-main-forum/69128-gen-3-dashboard-rattles-creaks.html No solution so far. If you figure it out, let us know. Try having someone else drive the car while you sit in the passenger seat. Yhat may help you locate it better.
OK, here's what the service tech said about the rattle noise: We know about it, you're not the first one to mention it, if you point out where exactly they are coming from, we can try to fix it but it's very difficult, the noises usually come back after a while...
I found a clip loose on the passenger seat facing the door on the bottom. There is a long piece of plastic where u can raise and lower the seat. Towards the front there is a clip inside that came loose. Try that.
The clip is not the problem...something behind the doorpanel or the doorpanel itself seems to be the problem...djeez i hate the rattling interior !
My passenger side rattle seems to be the plastic trim at the bottom of the seatbelt tapping against the nearby panel. When a passenger is using the belt, or even if I just pull it out a bit, the rattle stops. When stopped, I can recreate the rattle by shaking the belt and physically observe the trim piece causing it. I haven't taken the time to figure a solution yet, but I think a well placed little piece of foam or maybe a strategic rubber band will probably take care of it.
For future reference, try buckling the passenger seatbelt even when there isn't a passenger. Worked for me. Same rattle, driving slow, uneven roads-MADDENING! No rattle whatsoever now
I have to say I have 35k on a 2015 and this is the only noise issue I have. If it was a plastic rattle I could pinpoint it and put some tape or something to fix it. It just sounds like something inside the door not plastic.
Bring it back to the dealer and let them figure it out, you have 1 thousands miles left on your warranty
