The car re-locks if you stand too close.

Interesting thing happen last night after work.

As I was leaving work I was talking to one of my employees as we walked out. I touched the door handle to unlock the car and threw my lap top in the back seat and closed the door.

While standing there talking to her I'd say between 15-30 seconds later I hear the car re-lock itself.

I wasn't touching the car and was standing with in a meter of the drivers door.

Anyone else have this happen to them?

The Manual explains that the doors will relock after 30 seconds if one of the FRONT doors is not opened within that 30 seconds.

It is not reliant on how close you are to the vehicle, and that 30 seconds is reconfigurable to other delay times, or it can be turned OFF, this , however, must be done be your Dealer!

It's a safety feature. Recall that water can cause the SKS to unlock a door if the fob is nearby. If the door isn't opened, it will automatically relock. It also helps save us from mental errors, not that we ever make any of those.

The interior lights also come on, even if you don't touch the door handle. Spooked me the first time it did it!
    Another "safety feature".

Also is intended to re-lock doors in the event of an accidental (and unknown) press of the remote button.

the light coming on spooks me out and i was "ALMOST" kicking myself because i thought i left the reading light on all night.

btw, if you leave your reading light on, does it automatically shut off or do you buy a new battery the morning after?

    Good call, blindguy.
On the GenII, everything is based on the driver's door. This is how I have managed to leave my headlights on and drain my battery. Twice.
I did this by opening the passenger door, starting the car, rolling up the windows, powering down and locking. What I missed was that the headlights came on when I powered up because I had them on. Since they automatically shut off WHEN THE DRIVER'S DOOR IS OPENED they didn't shut off.

In other words, if you don't open the driver's door, as far as the Prius is concerned you didn't open any doors.

The light automatically shuts off after the battery goes dead. ;)

Only the dome lights have a timer. The maplights stay on all night. Battery won't drain from those lights (dad left the hatch ajar all night when the car was relatively new. The dome lights were off the next morning of course but the cargo light stayed on all night)
