My dog can pretty much do the same thing in that video. He'll wait to grab it till I say so, he can turn left or right. Though I never tried the "backup" command. That was pretty cool.

In other words I disagree with Daniel. That was legit training.

I used to have a Border Collie. Yep, those are the dogs that are smarter than honor students! I loved my dog.

Now, I live on a tiny little corner lot in town. I refuse to have a dog, as there is no room for a dog to run and play and enjoy life. Dogs need space. So, we have a cat.

I love my cat. She is annoying, opinionated, moody, demanding, and standoffish. She also will cuddle and purr and chase her own tail and play with imaginary friends.

I have a problem with some dog owners, though. The ones that don't pick up after their dogs, the ones that have no idea how to train a dog not to bark randomly (we have a neighborhood dog that is named 'Shut up Cleo'), or who don't bother with any obedience training at all, and who then have annoying small dogs that bark, jump, and bite (I was bitten last night by my daughter's bichon frisse).

Cat owners usually only gain my ire if they neglect to spay/neuter their precious pets.

No, I've seen the same dog in other videos doing the same thing. My dog is the same breed, and even as a pup, she's smarter than some humans I know.

Oh, wait...Maybe it's a robot. Maybe it's a hungry cat, wearing a costume. Maybe the whole thing is a very clever fake, and the audience was paid to act the way they do. Maybe it's a left wing conspiracy. Maybe it's an alien! Maybe...it's real.

Sounds like you don't value loyalty or affection very much. My dog does not "kiss up" to me but he is very affectionate ( in his own snotty-french-dog-way) and loyal. I was having an emotional break up once and he, sensing that I was upset, came and sat in between me and my x. He just sat there with his head on my leg. I could feel the support flowing from him to me. It was the most amazing thing.

There's only one issue you'll have with a ferret. Most of them will steal and hide anything they get their tiny little thieving paws on. Shoe insoles. Rags. Towels. Slippers. Car keys. Underwear. Bras. Pencils. Pens. He once grabbed the patty meat off of one of my burgers and tried to make off with that, dragging it backwards across the floor as fast as his weasely little feet could carry him.

...while my dog would have wolfed it down whole, then looked at me to say 'what?'

Cute picture, koa. Which one of you actually throws the frisbee?

A ferret is like a having a rat, but with added vet bills and the chewing more destructive. They are cute and fun though (when they are someone ELSE's pet.)

A North Dakota neighbor of mind had sheep. One day he asked me to chase them into the pen. I tried, but there was no way they were going in. So he told me to use the dog, a border collie. I had never worked a dog and had no idea how to give the dog commands, other than calling it to me by its name. I called the dog, and the dog saw what I was trying to do, and she chased the sheep into the pen. It was amazing! They tried to evade her, but she ran twice as fast as them and cut them off at every attempt. All I had to do was close the gate after them and call the dog back out, because she'd have chased them all into a corner where they'd have piled up and suffocated each other. The dog was not smart enough to know when to stop herding.

All animals are smarter than most humans.

I value both loyalty and affection. But I respect intelligence and independence. A properly-trained dog is nice, and I loved my cousin's dogs. But nothing smells nicer than a cat who's just washed himself, and no sound is more soothing than a kitty's purr, and after you pet a dog you have to wash your hands!

Very nice, Pat - On topic and a sheep reference.

My dog Dingo sometimes tries to herd our cat, but we discourage it because the cat doesn't really like it much.

Two dogs. Black Lab mix, and a Chihuahua mix. Awesome dogs. I like the temperament and skills of both. The Chihuahua mix dog managed to catch a bird in her mouth when I was walking her one day. I mean CATCH. She didn't stalk it and pounce on it like cats do, she just closed her mouth at the right time as the bird flew across her path. It was the most amazing thing I'd ever seen an animal do; I really doubt you can train an animal to be that quick.

My Lab, hes just happy all the damned time. He likes to chase various animals, such as cats, possums, armadillos, but chasing is all he does. When they stop, he stops. Then he sniffs them. Then he goes off and pees. Hilarious. My girlfriend always freaks out when he runs off. "OH MY GOD HES GOING TO KILL SOMETHING". To date, hes actually been the one who got hurt in fights between him and cats. Hes a big softie, literally, big.

I like cats too, but I am allergic to them. Cats are nowhere near as engaging as dogs though. Despite what Daniel says, cats are for truly lazy people; put out their food, scoop the litter box; congratulations, you have passed Cat Ownership Masters Degree.

2 cats and one black lab here. I was always a cat person, but since I got my lab she is my best bud.

May get a kick out of this video.:D

I have only one cat left. At various times we have had two up to whole litters of kittens. Most of these came to my house due to the intervention of my children. Please note that I do like cats. Anyone who say they are not trainable are just not serious about it. My cats have always learned quickly to stay off counters and tables and out of the master bedroom. (Despite children undermining the lessons occasionally!) One cat hunted moles and left them on our doorstep. You KNOW she got praised for that, but she never brought them in the house. Had one cat that would retrieve thrown balls. Trouble is she kept trying to train the boys to retrieve them for her! A couple older kittens that didn't stay with us learned to ride on shoulders.

The current cat, Samantha, is getting up in years and has some medical problems, but knows very well whose lap is ok to visit and whose to avoid (DH, who is more of a dog person!). I don't have to keep the bedroom door shut during the day anymore, because now the cat won't go in even if invited! DH made feelings on that clear a long time ago.

I watch the Dog Whisperer show occasionally, and it makes a lot of sense, but you don't see that kind of attention for cats. Maybe because people don't see cats as a threat.
