NAV 9.1 Improvements Files Hello everyone, I figured all of you would find this most useful. As assumed, no functional upgrades, but only addresses. I thought this was amazing information that Lexus is finally making available for its customers. I have made Gen 2, 3, 4, 5 available for you all. Sorry 2010 Prius fans, there are no improvements for you, and 9.1 is a waste of money. It should help you all make a decision on whether or not its worthwhile to update or not, especially us poor Classic owners!
I am impressed by the number of roads added in Ontario alone. Although I also understand there is a Voice recognition improvement for Gen 3, 4 and 5 navigaiton units. I can't wait to see this. The Japanese microphone kit I bought is so much better than the standard microphone kit that Toyota gives on other models. It has a built in noise cancellation feature, and can even hear over the radio.
OH MY GOD, I pray its true! I have just read on a lexus forum that the Navigation Override is back on Gen 5 units with 9.1! Of course its just a single poster who has a Lexus RX400h but then again, it could be a false claim. He also says its not using a Hybrid disk. When there are more verified claims, then I will post the link. Until then, I just thought I would post it. My disk will be arriving in a couple of weeks so I will post experiences for Gen 4 owners!
Would the lexus version work? Here it is for $199 and then someone said use promo code NAV09 to save $25 bucks... Sewell Lexus Parts
Yep, Lexus, Scion and Toyota are precisely the same disc. The 2009 will take Generation 5, while your 2010 will take Generation 6. The Gen 6 is updated via the USB port.
So will this disk upgrade any functionality on the Prius (I have '07, whatever version came with that)?
Just accuracy upgrades on the GPS, however no other functional upgrades at all. All told there are over 250,000 miles of additional roads, and almost 290,000 additonal POI's.
The 2010 does not have the hard drive database so does not update by a USB port, it needs a DVD disk of data. Wayne
Anyone have experience with it yet on a Gen5 prius? I'm thinking of buying it, trying to find a good deal
No, s/he's referring to the generation of the navigation system. On the 2004-2006 (without backup camera) it was a 4th generation system. On the 2006 (with backup camera)-2009, it was the 5th generation system. The 2010 has the 6th generation system. Also, some 2010 models do have the HDD-based navigation system -- just none currently in the US. Don't forget there's the rest of the world out there, too .
While great news, last time I checked with Toyota on upgrading my wife's Avalon Nav they wanted $400. Heck for that amount I can buy a whole GPS system. Are they doing the upgrade for free now? Kirk
