Just saw the trailer for this film, which was released in New York on Sept. 9. Pretty much aligns with what I've read about the behavior of Big Oil in developing countries around the world--abyssmal. I'd like to take our older kids to see it when it comes to Seattle in October. Here's the schedule.

I haven't seen this one yet. There was a movie that CNN showed in its entirety once about the true cost of our carbon-based economy. I had already seen it once but the second time I saw it was in an airport.

You know how there are some movie that people should be FORCED to watch? Well, in a polite way, I suppose. Well I swear to you that as I looked around the terminal more than half of the travelers were staring at the monitors watching this movie.

Cleveland isn't all that far, usually takes roughly 45 minutes to get downtown with moderate traffic, most of the city is such a run down dump I hate going there.

People often wonder why proven oil, gas, and shale reserves are untouched in North America. The real reason has to do with cost, the end cost.

Much like our electronics industry, it was so much more convenient to outsource everything, so we could lead our clean, comfy Western lifestyles, without any thought whatsoever to the consequences

If you want to solve this problem, stop consuming. If you want to pretend the problem can be left with poor people in foreign countries, express fake moral outrage, keep consuming and pretend it will all go away

I was talking with my Director at work (boss' boss). I said, "here are three items that I read in three different articles:
    - The U.S. outsources more and more production and manufacturing to China every year.
    - China has dedicated themselves to build one new coal-fired power plant each week for five years.
    - Air pollution in the U.S. is declining in most major cities by measurable amounts."

It's so easy to see that we are outsourcing our work and our pollution. We're not reducing pollution; we're offshoring it.

when i saw the title, i figured i had seen it, but i guess this is a different one. actually have seen a few "scary" docs. watched one concerning the national debt... the numbers on that one was pretty daunting.

but i put this on netflix as well

    **edit**

the movie i saw was A Crude Awakening: The Oil Crash done in 2006... fairly gloomly. probably worse now

Very good Tony, you are 100% correct.

I've often countered with ignorant folks who presume we have "fixed" the environment, that we should immediately require all petroleum and electronics to be sourced right here.

    They'd change their tune, pronto

Speaking of airports, just make sure if you have to use the can, that disgraced former Idaho senator Larry Craig isn't in the next stall

Unless you like playing "footsies" while in the can. In which case, rock on

2PM showing at U.C. Irvine down the road, day after tomorrow (Friday) ... sounds like a good reason to leave work a tad early. After reading the above posts ... I won't be using the stalls

    :eek:hwell:

I'll give my siskell & ebert afterwards

'she who must be obeyed' didn't give it a "thumbs up" ... but I figured it'd be that way. She likes happy endings, & you get none here. You won't be walking on sunshine afterwards ... that's for sure. It's a documentary larger in significance than Valdez ... and the Oilies avoided paying out on that spill for about 20 years ... in fact it was only about 9 months ago (Dec of 2008) that paychecks were mailed off to Alaska. I wasn't aware of the oil production deaths / illness / environmental destruction there in South America, so I'm still glad I went. Here's a nice write-up that reuters did on it.
