Possible to ask for $680 refund from Toyota for misquote on the Solar Package (SY)?

I purchased a Prius IV with Solar Package (SY) from So.Cal. dealership over the weekend. Before going to the lot, I priced my model with all options and accessories on the Toyota.com website and it listed the SY package as a $3,600 upgrade on MSRP. Yet, when I arrived to the dealership, the sticker quoted the package as $4,280. Both the website (at the time, it's changed since) and the sticker quoted the SY package with System Connect. And of course, the dealership would not budge at all on the MSRP sticker price.

    1. Is this $680 refund even remotely possible, should I reach out to corporate customer service?
    2. Who else here recently purchased IV with Solar Package (SY)?
    3. How much did you pay?

What is the price on the window sticker?
If it says $4280, you are out of like because what counts is on the sticker of your car, not the price on the web.

There is a price increase recently, you may just get caught with the new price.

You're out of luck if it's SY. You paid the correct price.

What I think happened (and no, I am not 100% certain, but I know a decent amount about this by now), is that when you priced the car on the website, with the SR package (which is the exact same thing as the SY package, minus the Safety Connect, and $680 less).

So, what I think happened is that you were on the website, and priced it out with the SR package (being newer to the Prius, and excited by the fact that you were about to go out and buy your dream car), and may not have noticed any mention of the Safety Connect system. You priced the car, and then went to the dealership.

When you saw the price was a little higher, and realized that it was for the Safety Connect system, you may have recalled reading about here on the forum, or somewhere else, and then thought, oh ok. Then later, when you went to check the website the next day, and they updated it to reflect the reality that in their region, they are now selling the vehicles made in August which began coming with the Safety Connect, you saw that the sunroof package was called SY, and now matched the price from the dealer.

While this is irritating, there is nothing that you can do. When you arrived at the dealership, and saw the factory pricetag, and the things that were installed on that car (both factory and Port Installed, or dealer installed), you opted to move forward by signing a contract to buy that car, as it was presented to you, and accepted it. While it may leave a bad taste in your mouth, as during your excitement, you may not have realized the fact that one price was inclusive of the Safety Connect and one was not, this is not a factor in getting the contract changed, or being able to get a refund, etc.

At the end of the day, you have acquired an excellent car, and even at MSRP, have a great deal on your hands.

Welcome to the family! :welcome:Now 'Shut up and drive', as the saying goes! ;)

I'm with you on this. I got a call on 9/5 that my IV w/sun roof was on the New Century II and should be here in 3 weeks and gave me the options and price. So I watched the ship dock in Portland, OR, COOL:D I also did a build every day on the Toyota web site checking the price and was $680.00 less until 9/15 when the web site changed. All that changed was the pricing, description did not. I printed out two or three days of builds and they all say I am getting the USB and the Safety Connect, but now I have to pay $680.00 more.

Unfortunately, when you go the pre-order/preference route there's a disclaimer that prices are subjected to change at any time. If it's a SY, you have to pay $680 more. If a SR, you pay the original price. No other way around it unless the dealer wants to give you another $680 discount off MSRP.

Unless we want Toyota to wait until a model year change to make upgrades someone will always get caught in this situation
