    Hi all,

I just received my Gentex Auto Dimming with home link mirror and really want to install it myself. I was looking at the mirror mount and was wondering how the OEM mirror comes off. Does it just take brute force up or down to dismount it?

    Thanks in advance,

    Chan

there's a little tab under the mount, near the glass. I can't remember if it pulls or pushes. Either way, it's simple.

Oh, then push the mirror up.

Let em know which wires you hooked the auto-dim into.

I purchase a good condition used one on ebay for $175.00. You can find new ones for about $279.00 with the works (compass, dimming, temperature, etc).

I will be running the wire down to the kick panels and searching for some wires to tap into there. I don't want to tap into the top ceiling console because if I have problems later it is a pain to pull apart ceiling to fix anything. I also will need to figure out where the parking light line is anyways to install fog lights.

the ceiling is easy, pull two pieces down. My replacement mirror used a screw to tighten to the plate.

In ether case, let me know which whrie you used for the autodim. I haven't connected mine yet.

I'd guess that the Ford Gemtek mirror is the same as the Toyota mirror.

Rumor has it the autodim does not work on the Prius due to the back spoiler and sensor location http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-ii-...o-dimming-rearview-mirror-not-dim-enough.html

than I won't bother...LOL. But I'd still like to try.

I read in another post that discusses covering the front sensor to cerate a greater difference between front and rear sensors to help compensate.

Mine works. It is a bluish tint.

You could put a darker tint on the back to darken all light coming in.
