I think to be really useful the code has to be cracked doesn't it? I don't believe the imports release all of the functions on the bus. I believe the US manufacturers do what ever that's worth.
I want instrumentation. If I get the scan gage now, can it be reprogrammed if and when the gen III's codes are cracked? Pardon my ignorance, I know what a scan gage is but I have never even seen one.
Also if it can be re-programmed, what is a good source for one and what does it take to re-program?

Even without the codes for XGauge it is very useful, you can use any four at a time of these 12 gauges:

Others have responded, perhaps obliquely, but I do want to make certain you understand the ICE will be spinning at all times at the speeds you noted. Whether you are burning fuel is another question, as you may be in a mode referred to as warp stealth for the Gen2. Additionally, it is worth noting that you also may be burning fuel yet obtaining a fuel economy of 99MPGs or greater.

Well that is what I was wondering as the meter was pegged @ 100 mpg. But I am sure your correct in saying that it was just a situation where I was getting above 100 mpg. I was able to reproduce the situation yesterday and quickly changed the HSI to the diagram and notice arrows coming from the ICE to the MG to the battery and to the wheels. So obviously the engine was lit and providing power... just really efficiently.

Thanks as always for the clarification,
    Peter
