Does anyone know how long it takes for the map data Google Maps uses to end up on data disks for GPS units? It's only been a few months since my 5-year-old road showed up correctly and I think it'd be a waste to buy before my own address is finally valid...
Go to the link below and learn everything you ever wanted to know about GPS and the Nav. Maps. Especially when the new maps come out. Bottom line, and my experience w/Garmin is, you will have to pay for any update, even if you just bought the GPS. This has been a common complaint since I have been using GPS units. GpsPasSion Forums
I have had 4 Garmins and every one came with free updates (downloaded) the first year, and $120 for lifetime updates.
They don't do that anymore. It's only within 60 days of purchase that you can get a free update, in case they happen to update maps after the unit was built.
Yes, but does Garmin sell the Toyota v9.1 NAV disk? That was after all the topic at hand. Anyone have that disk yet? Any noteworthy changes to report?
I think I'm just going to download a copy (if you don't know how, don't ask), check to see if some of the local changes appear, then upgrade if they do from whatever dealer is offering the lowest price.
I don't know whether version 9.1 is out yet, but the Prius NAV system needs a major, major overhaul of the mapping function. As it now stands, it is probably the worst GPS system ever made. Save your money, and wait for an overhaul rather than a mere upgrade.
The warranty offer through Priuschat was a very good deal. A DVD is cheap to ship. Maybe Greenfield Toyota will make a similar deal for us. Mike Regan
I get my car next week. When I asked the dealer about it, he said he did not know if it will have 9.1 or not. He then assured me that if it didn't they would "make it right.". I'll keep you all posted.
You'll be waiting a long time...I'm not aware of Toyota ever offering more than just a map upgrade to an existing nav system. If you want a major overhaul you'll have to wait a few model years and pray a lot. Either that or get a third-party system.
Reminds me of this video on the NAV override for a Lexus. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mU7-crUNLIg]YouTube - Lexus Nav Override 2007 - 2009[/ame]
I heard it was supposed to be released in Sept. I haven't seen it out yet. You can bet this will be the place to hear it. In fact, when I saw the update to this thread, I thought it was out. I am still waiting. --Mickey
Seems like it's been released, with part numbers posted in this other thread: http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-ii-prius-audio-electronics/68675-navigation-update-v9-1-a.html
I couldn't disagree more. I see a lot of bashing of the Nav System but compared to a TomTom or iPhone, it's really pretty sweet.
