When you get quotes, make sure you get a minimum of 100/300/100 coverage.

Many web sites like to quote you the minimum and let me tell you, the minimum is NOT good enough if you have an accident and get sued.

Good advice, if you have something to lose (like a home). I would suggest the OP discuss his specific financial situation with an agent and figure out what the appropriate coverage levels are.

That is a very subjective statement, however everyone has their own opinion. Not to say that they are the bad, they are, in my opinion not the best.. keep in mind that for a living I deal with many insurance companies when one of my clients gets in a bang up with someone else.. no company is perfect but in my experience some do a significantly better job of taking care of their insureds when they are in a time of need.

We have Ameriprise through Costco. They take very good care of you if you have a claim.

I have Allstate. What I like about Allstate, Nationwide, etc over Geico or Progressive is that you actually have an Agent. My Allstate agent and I are good buddies, we play Golf, we refer business back and forth to each other, I know if I ever have a question or need honest advice about how a claim or change in my life is going to effect me and my policies, I know I can ask him. He knows how my needs translate into the types of coverage I need. When you're "building your own coverage" on Progressive who knows what you are opting out of.

When you just call and ask an insurance company a question...it counts as a claim whether you ever ultimately file it or not. Having a good Agent (and not all Agents are good obviously) means you actually have someone to talk to that won't use what you say against you.

Do I pay a little more than with Progressive or Geico? Sure. You get what you pay for though.

If you want to talk to him PM me and I'll give you his info.

Well said, there is nothing like finding out you should have had a type/amount of coverage when the unexpected happens. Having a good relationship with an agent that can take a consultative approach to your needs can be priceless.

Absolutely, how is the general public supposed to know what types of coverage they need for their asset level, etc? I find the prospect of "picking your own coverage" terrifying. You're not building a Prius online, you're selecting coverage to protect you and your family from potential financial destruction should something unforseen happen when driving your car. Not something to be taken lightly. What if you're at fault in an accident and the other person involved is killed and is the family breadwinner? are you covered? If you don't have an Agent...you don't know. When you talk to the insurance company anything you say will be used against you to get out of your claim as cheaply as possible...your Agent will tell you the real deal.

Thats what car insurance is REALLY about...not repainting bumpers or replacing windshields.

I would bet the poster above who "got their Premium down" from $200/mo to $130/mo using that tool is underinsured.

Since you are in CA and may not be eligible for USAA, check out 21st Century Insurance (online like geico/progressive). I've had them for years and had claims handled. My sister also has them and had a claim. They replace with original manufacturer parts and when the auto repair shop declared 1 of my cars totaled, offered me within $100 of my original total purchase cost for a 2 year old vehicle (I bought new). They increased my insurance cost after that but that was expected.

My sister wasn't satisfied with the repair to her car and the insurance company adjuster agreed. Took it back to the shop and had the repair redone.

21st has been sold a couple of times since my last claim - first bought by AIG then Farmers. So I can't vouch for how Farmers as the new owners acts but 21st was good at handling claims in the past and they are a low cost provider. Geico and progressive has never been competitive with 21st (or Ameriprise through Costco) price wise.

With all due respect OP, I wish I was the sole owner of the server of this forum so that I may ban you. "for your info I do not lie...you might but I do not". Really? Man... You unfairly give us all the task of deciphering your posts; you act high and mighty as though we have a responsibility to put up with your cynical attitude; and then you expect people to treat you well? I just don't understand exactly what you are doing in this forum. I am sorry to be rude, but several times people here tried to advise you to represent yourself better rhetorically, (across many threads) and you responded with things like "stop worrying about my grammar and pay more attention to what I am posting," and other similar cynical backtalk. My apologies to everybody else, but somebody had to say it.

I work for them, we are the best in a lot of area's, but others beat us in some regions. Alot of it really depends on each individual situation for both the company and the individual getting insurance. Sometimes your price can be as much as double as someone else based on literally hundreds of factors.

    Re: Who's better?

lol, FAI went broke for so many reasons...

For anyone in Australia, I recommend you have a look at Toyota's own insurance, which funnily enough, is call Toyota Insurance. They are already quite competeive, and even better, they're offering 20% off premiums for new 30 series Prius buyers.
