    Hi everyone:

As you all know, it gets HOT down here in Texas, and with the sun being out the way it is, most of us like to protect our interiors(Leather or not) while keeping it cool.

I don't know about you guys, but I am a huge fan of BMW's sunshades. They're made of some thick cardboard and don't have that cheap, cheesy, flimsy feel to them like most sunshades do. And no suction cups to leave the windshield hickey behind! Thing is, I can't figure out for the life of me who makes one--particularly one fitted for the 2010 Prius. This is the closest I've come to finding something comparable. The downside is...you're paying $50 for a sunshade. Come on...really?

Anyways, I wanted to see if anyone else has done their homework on these or just knows more than I do.

Check out the PriusChat Shop on this site. Some very good products, including a perfect-fit sunshade for the '10. Excellent quality. Thick material and rolls up with a velcro fastener. I have one for almost two months - and here in FL, it does a great job. $30 and well worth the price.

I have the one from the Priuschat store and it fits very well. It fits the curves perfectly. It is made of very firm well insulated material. There is NO comparison to the universal kind sold at Walmart and auto stores.

...and virtually no "sag" when supported by the visors. I'm pleased with mine, Prius Chat version is actually made by and shipped by Canvas Works, whose shades I've bought for several cars.

I find it a bit bulky to fold up. it does fit perfectly, but I found the accordion type like the one I listed above, a lot less of a hassle. Difference is, it doesn't cover the front small window like the one from Priuschat store. I have both

I have the Prius Chat (CanvasWorks) 2010 shade)--it does not cover the small front windows. I guess the prior ones did, but see the picture on the website for the specific 2010 fit.

I bought hoping it would cover those windows as well but does not. It is bulky so we throw in the back seat area. When we have back seat passengers, we throw in the cargo area. All in all, I am happy and think it is a worthy investment.

In my old truck I had one that would "fold" up to about a 10" circle, then pop open when needed. Is there anything like this? It would fit under the drivers seat easily.

Trying to save money, I bought 2 different shades at an auto parts store. Both were billed as "jumbo" size: one was accordion style, the other the springy type that folds into a disc-shaped package. Both were too small, so my hoped-for savings actually turned out to be money thrown away.

After that, I broke down and bought the one from the PriusChat store. It fits perfectly, and appears to be very good quality, but as noted by others, it is a little awkward to handle.

I know what you mean. I had one of those that I used for years with a Mazda that I owned (because of the big windshield).
I ordered one of the custom fit, pricier sunshields and could not use it at all-----I couldn't roll it up, it was so strong---it kinda took on a will of it's own (I won't mention the brand---but I hated it.)
I found the pop-up shade, like you're wanting, again and ordered it and it does work for me.

It's the Super-Jumbo Pop-Up Shade (the jumbo isn't large enough- and I could use about 2 more inches on this one, but it works well enough),
and it's only $9.95 plus shipping. site is:

It's a little stiff and awkward when new. It will soften with age. You also need to learn how to fold it. In half, half again and then sort of roll it in half again and pull the velcro strap around and cinch it. It's a little bit stiff as I said in the beginning but once you get the hang of it it should become second nature. That is, if you're talking about the one I think you're talking about.

Has anyone had any of these sunshades leave "plastic film" marks on the windshield? I have a fold-up type (doesn't fit my Prius) that leaves a nasty film behind similar to what builds up from the dashboard 'breathing'.

I have the fold up 10"-12" disk one for my other car. When I bought it, it came as two shades. When installed they over lap and do a very good job blocking the light. I'll probably order the Prius Shop custom fit one for my Prius.

I found a cheap 'fix' when I mixed my measurements up at Wallyworld the other day. The Super Jumbo works if you turn them sideways in the windshield. They extend past the top of the windshield and hold in place via the sunvisors. The mirror also remains exposed since they're a bit long. I realize there are a number of cons to this solution, but I love the convenience of a quick twist to fold these up. hope this helps.

You're right, I just recently realized that my "super-jumbo" would cover the area up near the base of the window if I turn it sideways, like you mentioned.
Works great, doesn't it, and they fold up so quickly and you can place it in a number of handy reach spots.

One day using the old one that I had for my Mazda, I was outside the car twisting to fold it up and it got away from me and went under the car that was parked next to mine. LOL :p

I also have one of those that fold up into a 10" circle. It's not a perfect fit, you kind of have to tilt it then put the sun visor down. I have found the largest jumbo size is too large but the size just below that will fit better. The one from Prius Chat is good, but it depends how much time and effort you want to take folding it up. Now with all three types I tried, my accordion type I bought is the one I use. Least amount of fuss, excellent coverage.

I have a CoverCraft windshield shade for my 2006 Prius, they are made to fit and not just the "universal" sizes so it is shaped exactly the same as the windshield. I see that they now have them available for the 2010 Prius. These are not cheap covers, as they cost around $49.95 but I've already been using mine about 3 years and it's still practically like new, they are rather thick and fold up nicely. They even sell a bag to store it in if you find it necessary, but I usually just fold it and throw it on the floor behind the passenger seat. I bought mine from:

Nothing better than the Eclipse Sunshade! I have the same size on my 2010 and a 2008 Prius. It's so easy to use and store away! Living in Texas, I can't believe I never got these before.
