The Prius and radar detector don't belong in the same sentence!

If you're driving a Prius and need a radar detector then you don't know how to drive the Prius!

Um, a radar detector is useful even if one is not way over the speed limit. I like to be alerted when there is a cruiser around, because it can be the cause of all kinds of dangerous traffic turbulence.

I once got a laser-generated ticket at a speed trap on steep downhill S-curves during evening drive time (40 speed limit, safe at 55 or 60). I saw the guy standing there before he hit me, but slowing down would have caused the car behind to rear-end me. If they were using any standard radar, I would have known about him long before I saw him.

So, to sharpen the question, any Valentine1 (superior detection) users with Toyota radar cruise control experience?

I seem to remember another thread (it may have been in one of the other sub-forums though) where it was said that a V1 worked just fine.

I don't know if it's the same in US but the use of radar detector is forbidden in Quebec and New-Brunswick. A relative of my wife get caught by a detector of radar detector ! It costs him a big amount of money.

I think the smart think to do is to respect the speed limit in all time. It gives plenty of time to slow down and avoid any accident.

    Drive safely !

radar detectors are completely legal in the US except for D.C. and west virginia. you'll all change your mind when you get a ticket for 60 in a 55 some time thinking they won't pull you over at 5 over.

people like you only perpetuate the stereotype that all prius drivers are slow, sissy drivers. besides there was a trooper in dauphin, pa who used to get people for 2 over, 37 in a 35 and ticket them. you never hover 2-5 mph over speed limit at any given time? right..

    Not west VA, but Virginia.

Radar detectors are illegal in VA

DRCC uses mm wave technology which is somewhere in the 70GHz range, far above where police radar lies.

I tried mine this morning (Bell RX65) and there are no problems. Highest frequency police radars are around 25 GHz, DRCC/PCS radar is 76.5.
