I would like to express my interest in this, but I am unsure of my availability. My vote is Stanley Park. There are a lot of good spots for group pics, and plenty of parking.

What about the possibility of coming as a foot passenger, and having someone pick you up at the terminal?

As beautiful an area as Capilano is, it's not the best for a group gathering. At least a group this age, who'd rather talk about their cars in the parking lot.

Either Stanley Park or Kits Beach has plenty of parking, though they are both very busy places. Is there any way of reserving a section with Parks & Rec?

Has anyone considered UBC and/or SFU? They're scenic, too, and the acres of parking are pretty bare most weekends.

That's cheap for sure but if I can't show off my newly PHEV equipped baby then it wouldn't be..[how to say this delicately].... worth my while. No offense, I'm just not really a social butterfly.

Yup. UBC is out of the way for everyone (but a very very fuel efficient drive :D. SFU is fine too as I've met at the Horizons Restaurant parking lot for another meet. But then it'll be a good drive to whereever we decide to have lunch.

Again, I'm up for any of the universities, Stanley Park or Jericho Beach (though the beach might be harder to find spots unless we go early in the morning but it will be a fuel efficient drive).

Nice, that would be pretty cool to have a bunch of Gen III's converging in one spot!
Hmm, unfortunately that's the first year anniversary for my wife and I. Not too sure whether she'd be into chatting Prius all day

I guess it'll have to be a maybe for me. We could likely visit for awhile for the meet and photo op, but probably wouldn't join in for the food if we went.

I agree with hyo silver, UBC or SFU would probably be pretty good because there'd be space for all of us to park in the same area. Not too sure about Stanley Park. Isn't it usually fairly busy on the weekends?

So anyway, just to be clear, this is a black tie event, right??

What? My invitation said 'clothing optional', and that I was to head straight down the path marked "Wreck Beach" at the end of the UBC parking lot. Nice try, moner. :D

No, no, no. I was thinking of all the unused weekend parking and the scenic splendour, which is still splendiforous without the beaches. :)

Is someone going to make an executive decision about where we're meeting? I'm happy to keep providing suggestions, but at some point in the next 3 weeks, it would be helpful to know where we're going.

Oh, and what's the budget, by the way? Am I bringing tea and crumpets for 50, or would everyone prefer barbecue? ;)

well I think it's tied between Stanley Park and UBC.

Depends Bruce. I wasn't planning on having anything at the photo op. But if ppl prefer not to move and just have a BBQ lunch at the same spot, I'd think a park would be a better spot (e.g. Stanley Park) or maybe the beach.

I'm rather new around here, but excited as all get-out about my new prius, not to mention, the proposed date is on my birthday. Is it fate?

Can anyone give me a sense of where the possible meet locations are in relation to me here in Oregon? I'm geographically challenged.

    :)

From Portland, get on I-5 and pick the direction towards Vancouver. From Portland, it doesn't matter which Vancouver (WA or BC) you aim for, both are in the same direction -- North.

But continue for at least 310 miles. If an official looking person in a government uniform hasn't demanded your passport, you are in the wrong Vancouver. And if you don't have that passport, you will have considerable problems continuing, either forwards or backwards.

What about contacting both UBC and the parks board? We might get a better idea of the possibilities. A barbecue on the beach sounds great, but it's not summer any more.

Uh, North. At least six hour's drive, one way. Canada's that big empty place between the US and the North Pole. :D

I'm not THAT challenged. I knew it was ...*points kinda northward like* that way.

Google Maps can give you an estimate of the driving time (without border waits of course) and distance from your place to the city of Vancouver.

Why do we need to contact them? Is there a high risk of fire??

There's also QE Park btw as a meeting point (that partking lot at the top is usually empty I think). Then we could all drive over to UBC or Stanley Park in a convoy :D.

Hmmm... then a restaurant for food then? I don't want to make people drive all the way out just for an hour of photo shoot and chatting.

You didn't give much clue about how challenged you are, and the local news has covered some wild ones.

A spouse of a Fort Lewis soldier, newly moved here from the East Coast, was asked to drive to Vancouver to meet him up after a work function. But not being a local (not recognizing there are two Vancouvers in the region) or having little sense of direction, she picked the wrong way on I-5. And of course, the highway signs still pointed to Vancouver. BC, WA, whatever.

The guards with maple leaf patches on their uniforms sensed something amiss, and pulled the car over for inspection. They found a grenade in the glove box. By the time it was determined to be a training dummy, we already had an international incident.
