Getting a measured 54 MPG over the first 900 miles, not the inflated MPG reading on the readouts. "Measured" means reading the trip mileage and dividing it by the amount of gas it took to fill the tank. Yes, there's room for error here, but the displays claim I'm getting nearly 57MPG. Seems really optimistic.

We have an updated calibration formula:
    (.86 * 57) + 5.0 = 54.02 MPG corrected

    error: .02/54 = 0.4% error

I inflated my tires to 38/36, I filled up w/ 8.4 gals. after 496 miles. Calculator says 59mpg. Next 40/38 this is beginning to be fun.
    Tony Renier

    423 miles, 7.377 gallons= 57.32, tires 38/36 psi
    tires now inflated to 40/38

Just finished my first tank and I got a calculated 45.6 mpg. I drive 99 % in Eco mode, but drive normally, with a typical 6 mile commute and a couple of 70 mile highway trips. I am pleased. I've made no efforts to drive differently, and probably won't. That's the real beauty of a Prius. Drive normally and still get terrific mileage.

Two tanks through 2010 "Pearl" and I'm at a consistent 61mph average. Driving style is mild-hypermiling... but not slowing down traffic. Tire pressure 38psi front 36 rear. Gas is Valero 89 octane with ethanol. If I drove it like I drive a 4-banger gas car, it would be getting down in the 50's.

I've had mine for just under two weeks. I commute from Pasadena to Brentwood for work which takes me on the 210/134/101/405 freeways in varying types of traffic from light to heavy and flat to hills. This trip is 36 miles and the following numbers are one way to work (I get a bit less on the return trip).

The following are fuel computer figures (not corrected)

    First day: 60.5 MPG
    Second day: 63.0 MPG
    Third day: 65.2 MPG
    Fourth day: 70.0 MPG
    Fifth day: 71.1 MPG
    Sixth day: 72.0 MPG
Seventh day: 75.2 MPG (my best so far)

If you can provide the elapsed time and/or mph, I can use this data in the "mph vs MPG" chart.

    Thanks,

Just got back from Reno. Had a great time.

    Here are are trip stats:

    Fill up: 412.0 miles/ 8.364 gals/ 49.25 MPG/ guage 51.8
(Note above was filled at sea level a few days before and my wife went back and forth to her business.)

    Fill up: 295.7 miles / 5.947 gals/ 49.72 / guage 52.1
Oregon fillup about mp # 70 on Interstate 5

    Fill up: 366.9 / 7.413 / 49.45 / 52.5
    Nevada / Carson City

    Fill up: 164.0 / 3.325 / 49.32 / 52.3
At Reno / driving around up to Lake Tahoe, Virginia City

    Fill up: 390.2 / 7.364 / 52.98 / 55.3
    Oregon/ Interstate 5 / about MP 130

    Fill up: 252.7 / 4.816 / 52.47 / 53.8
    Oregon home at Seaside

    Miles / 1,881.5 / 37.499 gals / 50.174 MPG

Speeds / at or slightly above Speed Limit to keep up with traffic
Weight / me my wife and about 200 lbs of luggage

MPG was better last time but car was new and I believe I was a little easier with my driving. This time I drove at higher speeds climbing several mountain passes.

This is not flat road driving.

I am impressed we got this kind of mileage for driving the speeds we did.

    Mileage: 832.1km (520mi)
    MFD: 4.2L/100km (56mpg)
    Calc'd: 4.38L/100km (53.7mpg)
    Avg Spd: 32km/h (20mph)
Fuel Added: 36.423 litres (9.897 US gal)
    Cost: $33.29

I think the interesting thing to note is the average. I've heard plenty of "20mph average speed? you gotta be joking. No wonder ppl tailgate you. I average closer to 35mph). Well no you don't unless you're always on the highway, then maybe you're closer to 40mph. I've had to go to the airport twice at 70mph and plenty of 50-60mph highway trips but it's the short city trips that lower your average speed. You don't realise how "slow" you're actually going because people only "average" out the speed they're travelling at and forget about the stops at traffic lights (which is still adding to your average speed).

If anything, 32km/h is fairly quick. Our Camry's average speed is closer to 25km/h (15.6mph) in nearly 100% city driving.

    amen TP!!

tried to explain that on the "Tank mileage" thread, but it no good. just too many things during a long tank (mine average nearly 3 weeks) that happen to drop that average speed.

really wish that it measure average speed only when moving. THAT would be valuable

I'm not gonna bother. People can decide on whatever they want. If they think 20mph avg. speed is slow, they're living in a fantasy world or they only drive on the highway and city streets don't exist in their commute.

On my last fill-up, I only got a calculated 42mpg over approximately 300 miles. This is pretty bad, and it's been going down every fill-up! However, I think the main reason is because I seem to have been encountering many red lights. My average mph was only 15 -- the majority of my driving was in 35-40mph zones and I made some trips on the highway at 55-65mph, so obviously I am not driving at at 15mph. But I seem to have to stop at 80% of the traffic lights I go through -- and because I live in a particularly hilly area, I am usually having to climb a hill from a dead stop. My poor mpg gauge goes right down, and since I am in traffic I can't exactly take the hill at 5mph.

I have found that the slow acceleration recommended in the manual just kills my mileage. After a stop, I try to get up to speed fairly quickly and then release the gas pedal.

OMG your mileage is fantastic. I try to drive careful and granted the car just is almost close to 1000 miles. and I can only get about 53-55 tops thus far and I pretty much try to glide whenever I can and am always in ECO mode. I am sure it's the newness and break in yet. At least I am hopeful that's it....
    :)
    You have great numbers....truly amazing!:)

Do you have an EBH yet? If not, it sure would be interesting for you to get one and plug in for say an hour or two before your drive to see what an impact that would have.

    new fillup

613.9 miles, 23 days, 24 mph, 62.7 mpg on MFD. pump mileage 55.78 mpg.

just got back from the Puyallup Fair, mostly freeway. filled up on the way over this morning. current tank 52.1 miles, 60.2 MPG, 51 mph. that average speed will slowly drop. seems like no matter what i do, it always seems to be in the 20's somewhere.
