Based on what little I know about TPMS I assume that the tire pressure values are being transmitted wirelessly to the ECU. Is there a third-party TPMS receiver you can buy that shows you the values being transmitted? I know there are third-party TMPS systems (sensors and receiver) available, so presumable this would be technically possible.

I can confirm it is technically possible, although I do not know of devices to do it. The factory system records the pressure to the 1/10 psi... not sure they're really accurate to that level, but it is reported that way in the Techstream diagnostic tool. Would be very interesting to find a little hand-held tool that would just read out the pressures, but I have a hunch it would cost more than it would be worth (compared to just getting out and checking).
