Why do some regions get different configurations?

    I've been playing with the Toyota build-your-car feature on various sites for a while, putting together just what I wanted, and last night went through Costcoauto.com's site to send a request to the dealership to talk to someone. Today I find out that what I'm looking for isn't available in our region (I'm in Arizona,) which answers why I couldn't get the III with just nav to show on the Toyota site but could everywhere else. Is there some kind of rationale behind this? Why would one part of the country not get a very usable item that other parts of the country are getting?

    I was looking at the III because of the voice-activated stuff that comes with the nav. Without that, the III seems like a waste of a lot of extra money. Am I missing something?

    Dirk;

    Usually the region's orders are based on past sales history for that region. If a particular Model/Package hasn't been a profitable item in the past, they're not going to repeat a loosing propisition.

    Hopefully, Jabber, Deadphish or Diane will chime in and give you a more concise answer.

    I can understand that, I guess (on this car it doesn't seem necessary since the Prius practically sells itself independent of its package,) but what I can't understand is that I can configure it with the Solar Roof (which comes with nav, as we know) but not nav alone. I just find that puzzling and, frankly, a bit annoying. I want the back up camera! I want the voice controls! (I don't care so much about the nav, but it's part of the deal, so . . . )

    Same thing happened to me. I really wanted a III with NAV and was so disappointed to find out they don't sell them in my region. I had four choices:
    1. Get a III without NAV
    2. Go out of state to get the III w/NAV
    3. Place an order for a III w/NAV locally and hope it comes in someday.
    4. Get a IV w/NAV

    I did exactly what Toyota hoped I would do, bought the IV w/NAV. I am very happy with the car. :) I'm just broke now.
