Canadian 2010 Prius Owners' Pictures

Just got home from 6 nights of camping and a 2200km roadtrip around BC. From Vancouver to Christina Lake, from Christina Lake to Kaslo and New Denver one day and from Christina Lake to Salmo and Trail another. Trip also included a 20km steep logging road to Cody Caves, the Prius worked hard and got filthy! The route was super mountainous, with the battery showing completely full alot of the time, the inverter whirring like mad. Unlike Richard P, I only got 4.7l/100km... with cruise on 95% of the time driving 10km above the speed limit, average outside temperature was about 36 degrees Celsius with AC on the entire way set to 25 degrees, and using mostly ECO mode interspersed with lots of POWER mode for passing overheating campers... and trying to unrun the Lillooet forest fire. I also left the car powered up for hours at a time at our campsite to charge electronics and to use the stereo. It would start about once an hour for under a minute at a time, better than a dead battery!
ODO is at 3200km now. The attached pictures have file names with their locations, in case you're wondering.
By the way, I spent alot of time explaining how the car worked as people walked by our campsite. I felt like I should be working for Toyota!

 

Crazyness, I did see something on the news about a stage collapsing at some festival out there too. It's great to be back in Vancouver now that the heat wave has passed. It's a beautiful 20 degrees, and it looks like it's about to rain.
Richard P, are you available for Prius driving lessons? Hehe, I'd love to see that consumption below 4L one day as well!

 

Yeah, usually I'd blank the plates, but I'm feeling a bit warn out and lazy after all that.
You're right, the rims do look tiny; one day I'll have to upgrade and use the stock ones for winter. I still think it looks better than without the covers though? Hmm, I wonder if having the covers off had that much effect on my MPG?

Guess they were lucky only one person died from the sounds of it.

 

Yeah, that was summer. Dang. Just when it was starting to warm up. 25C feels cold now.

You visited very nice places ! I will certainly add BC on our list of places to visit one day!

About my mileage, I think that "geography" might explains a big part of it ! It is very flat around here and with the summer we had so far, AC was not sollicited very often. I did a 175 km trip at 3.8 L/100Km but I was alone in the car (my wife would had kill me before the end of the trip !), I droved very slowly (75 km/h) and I accelerated very gently and at the end, the battery was empty ! Usually, it's between 4.2 and 4.4 ! We now have 2 600 Km on the odo, I filled up the tank 3 times (Average : 4.7 for the first tank, 4.2 for the second and 4.3 for the last one). (My best record on each tank : 4.3 on a 251 km trip for the first, 4.1 on a 588 km journey for the second and 3.8 for a 175 km stretch).

Oh yeah ! I deplore my first big scratch on my car !:frusty: I was in Montreal for a meeting last Thursday and I hit a ciment rail in a parking lot. OUCH ! It is on the lower part of the front bumber, on the passager side and very visible. I will definitively get it repaired.

 

OUCH! So there's white primer underneath eh? I hope it doesn't cost too much to fix! I also have not figured out where the front end of the car is so I end up a couple feet away from all parking barriers at the front. Too bad the car doesn't have a front view camera too.
Yes, if you haven't been to BC you definitely should. The roadtrip was awesome, finally saw the one part of BC I hadn't been to. The car is still filthy after 3 touchless washes, I'll have to get out the scrubbers and bug remover today.

Have you been to Naramata, and Nelson, and Tofino, and Sandspit, and Mount Robson? Those are just some of the nicer places with Ns in their names.

 

Well, I still always get ID'd when I buy beer so I probably do look a bit younger than 1980. In the last couple years we've done some long BC road trips, except for way up North and the south-east corner. Out of your list there I'm still missing out on Naramata and Sandspit, looks like I still have some work to do!
Speaking of Mt. Robson, here's one of my favorite pics. Unfortunately no Prius in this shot though...

 

On Highway 16, west of Jasper and on the BC side. Lots of tourists there but a really nice spot. The scenery gets worse from there as you get closer to Prince George, but then better and better on the way down home to Vancouver.
I need to do another roadtrip up to Jasper, one of my favorite places!

 

Jasper's a beautiful place. And so is Robson. I didn't see many tourists on the walk up there.

Here's a few shots to show you what you're missing if you only drive by. One is of Jasper from the tram, another of Kinney Lake on the trail, and a couple of the mountain itself.

 

No, those are just reasonable facsimiles, taken by an amateur with a point and shoot. The real thing is truly awesome. Because of the weather, I didn't see it until the second day of our trip, after getting blisters digging trenches and drainage canals around our tent with the wrong end of a hatchet. I rounded a bend on a trail as the clouds were parting, and...oh WOW...the mountain filled the whole sky. The trail up Robson is even more spectacular, with bigger and better waterfalls all the way to Berg Lake. It's probably a bit far for most people as a return day trip (about 40 km), but the sights are well worth the effort. Take your pack and boots along for the drive next time - you'll be spoiled for life.

There is no scenery East of the Rockies, and not much West unless you like water and sunsets.


edit: Here's Berg Lake (I didn't take these ones) I've yet to climb that last pointy bit. Some day.

 

Berg Lake is beautiful, I had no idea that was around there when I was at Mt. Robson. I hope to do that hike one day too, might have to get my stamina up first though.

For the center caps, I ordered 4 of part number 42603-52030 from Toyota. They fit perfectly and cost about $16 each. 1 more week 'til you get your car, you must be getting excited!
