How long can I park at the airport?

Does anybody have experience parking their Prius for an extended period at an airport or any other long stay parking facility. My main concern is that I would return from a 1 week business trip and find that the battery has drained. Is the Prius designed to be simply an overnight parking mobile or should I feel comfortable leaving it alone in the extended stay garage?

One week shouldn't be considered extended storage.
If your battery is at a reasonably full level of charge, two or three weeks shouldn't present a problem.

One week isn't a big deal at all, but you can disable the SKS whle you are gone so it doesn't put a draw on the battery. I don't know if the location has moved for the 2010, but the button for it used to be underneath the dash on the driver's side.

I've read the owner's manual cover to cover and I just cannot seem to find the instructions to disable the SKS for storage on the 2010. The only reference that I can find is that it disables itself after 5 days. Someone posted in another thread about a complex button-dance procedure, but I cannot find any reference a button or switch. Am I missing something?

It turns itself off after 5 days and as soon as you use it once after that it turns itself on. I guess you have to open the door with the key but otherwise you should be ok

I think you can use the unlock button on the remote after the 5 days--you don't have to use the metal key.

So parking it for 2 week in the middle of winter should be no problem

SKS disable is a Gen II feature. The OP has a Gen III Prius, which does not offer a manual disable button. The new Prius automatically disables SKS after some time period. The Gen II also does this, but the timeout is longer.

I was away for almost 2 weeks w/o driving my car (left in my driveway though) - started right up and the HV battery was at the same SOC as it was when I left it. No worries. Granted, it was enduring temps of 115°F plus in my absence.

There was no delay in my ability to use SKS, and the 12V battery didn't show any signs of being discharged.

The car was, however, rather dusty on the outside due to dust storms and thunderstorms. Pressure washer took care of that problem ;-) No dust on the inside that I could tell despite solar running the entire time. Bet my filter's got a mean bit of crap in it - will have to check that...

I don't have experience with our new Prius, but our previous car was a Civic Hybrid. I've left it parked for over 6 weeks and never had a problem. The battery charge was down some from where I left it, but it always started right up and recharged quickly. I have to believe the Prius will be at least that good. I don't think I would turn anything off unless I were parking it for 6 or 8 months, and then I would check with the dealer on what to do.

My mind is finally at rest. I can officially designate the Prius 2010 as an Extended Stay Parking instrument.
