Today, I walked out of Ray Brandt Toyota in Kenner, La (New Orleans Metro Area) with a huge smile on my face. I ordered my 2010 Prius IV w/ Solar Roof!! (Winter Gray Metallic/Misty Gray)

And now, the impatience begins. lol! I was told they'd have to "special order" it, as they didn't have any in the area that matched my criteria. Apparently, there hasn't been any IVs with Solar Roofs showing up on the local lots. I think that's kinda weird. You would think people down here in the deep south would be all over the solar roofs with our ridiculous climate. Luckily, I was actually given a cheaper price than what the Toyota website gave me. So, that's obviously a huge plus!

Anyone in the Gulf States region know anything about the availability of IVs w/ Solar Roof? I've been reading different time frames from others who have had "special orders". I wonder how long it'll take for my car to come in?

Wish me luck for a safe transaction, ya'll!
    Can't waaaaaaait! :whoo:

User nola_prius has the IV with Solar that he got in the New Orleans area somewhere. He got it earlier this week. I think he had a bit of a wait for it. I'm sure he can give you better details than I can. :)

So it is possible in your area. But there seems to be word out there that there is a shortage in the amount being manufactured currently.

But congratulations and welcome to the waiting club!!!!!

You made a great choice IMO as I am also waiting on a 2010 IV with SR. I hope your luck is better then mine though as I have been waiting since June 2nd and still don't even have a delivery estimate nor an allocation tied down. I put money down too!:welcome:

    Peppito,
Nice!! Now the wait begins. ;) Anticipation is tortuous pleasure.
It took me almost 1 month exactly to get my car, after I placed my deposit.
There is (as of a couple days ago) a silver IV w/ solar roof at the dealership that
I bought mine from. It's been there for a couple weeks now...not really sure
why no one has scooped it up yet. (thought I'd throw that at you in case you are impatient enough and open to the silver color)

Hopefully it won't take them long to get your car in. If your sales guy isn't the type to keep you posted on the status and what's going on with the hunt, call him up every week and ask for an update.

I've seen a couple 2010's driving around Mandeville, but no others with the solar roof.
If you're itching to see some pics of a Winter Gray with the sunroof, I made a thread earlier this week with a bunch of pics. However, I went with the dark gray interior.

The combination of the solar ventilation, window tint, and remote A/C is nice in the heat. :)

Did you order any other options for the car?

Good luck in your wait and transaction!!

I'm jealous of my NOLA brethren. I really wanted the winter gray, but couldn't justify the $3,600 for the solar roof to keep it cool in the hot NOLA summers. I guess if I had wanted the nav, then it would have been a less difficult pill to swallow, but I had absolutely no interest in the nav. In the end, I'm happy with my blizzard/misty package III, but that winter gray sure is beautiful. Congrats, Jason!

To be honest... I used a Garmin for the past couple years or so, which I loved. Now that I'm much more familiar with the Prius's nav unit, I actually like it a lot more than I thought I would.

The only gripe I have with it, when using voice control, is that I think the number of prompts could have been cut down. For example, having to input the city everytime. I wish it would stay set on a city.
The process of inputting a destination through voice control could have been a little more streamlined... like not having to say "Yes" to the city name, street name, and address number.
I guess it's good that it is double-checking, and it only wastes an extra few seconds, so maybe it's not a big deal. If it were up to me, I'd have made the confirmation checkpoints an option to turn on/off. I've only had to repeat something once, so the accuracy of the voice detection isn't a problem for me and I'd rather just skip saying "Yes" unnecessarily.

My Garmin didn't even have voice control, so I guess I can't really complain.
If it wasn't for the (in my opinion) absolutely HORRIBLE iPod interface, then I would have next to no desire to upgrade stereos in the future. I still might not...I'm not sure yet.
I REALLY want a nice looking and intuitive iPod interface in my stereo.
Maybe some software revisions will come out eventually.

I wanted the sunroof... with or without the solar ventilation, and with or without the navigation. However, solar ventilation and navigation are both things that I'd probably also have paid the extra bucks for even if they didn't come bundled with the sunroof.

Keep us posted on your car's progress.

I threw in the rear bumper protector and the window tint.

I checked out your pics and the gray looks awesome with the window tint! We have good tastessss my friend. I can't WAIT! If it only takes a month for mine to come in, then I would definitely be satisfied with that. The sales guy I am dealing with it is a really cool cat. The communication with him has been great, so I'm sure he'll keep me posted.

I'll be posting all sorts of goodies when I get it! Thanks a lot for the info, dude.

Keep in mind, the tint through Toyota will be pretty light compared to mine. I think >50% is legal here, which is pretty light.

I have 30% on my front driver/passenger, and everything else is 20%.
I wanted to make sure you weren't expecting something that dark from Toyota.

Have you ever gotten a vehicle tinted locally?
You could get it done darker and probably cheaper in town.
In case you weren't aware of that, I just wanted to tell ya.

The more pics I see of the light gray interior, the more I like it.
Especially with the dark colored exterior. I wasn't really a fan of the two-town thing it has, but now I like it. Post some pics that show both the exterior and interior together. :)

Peppito, Good luck on your wait. Best wishes for a patient and fast delivery. I have a Blue IV with SR in the Denver area and I am glad I made that choice. --TK

The dark gray interior was my first choice, but I figured I'd go with the misty gray to give the car some balance of color. I'm not expecting a tint as good as yours. If it comes out too light for my tastes, I may just deal with it for now, and save up to get them tinted locally, later on.

Any recommendations on local businesses that offer excellent tinting?

I'm not too familiar with any specific places on the south shore, but I'm sure there are a bunch that do great work.

Here are some Google results for New Orleans and Metairie areas:

[ame=http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=off&q=window+tint+new+orleans%2C+la&aq=f&oq=&aqi=]window tint new orleans, la - Google Search[/ame]

    [ame=http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=off&q=window+tint+metairie%2C+la&aq=f&oq=&aqi=]window tint metairie, la - Google Search[/ame]

I know the guy that has the Car Audio Connection here on the north shore. If the south shore location is any similar, they are very good.
If you click on some of the business on the links above, there are usually some customer reviews of the business.

I'm sure the tint through Toyota will be A+ quality, but the actual darkness of it won't be that dark. The tint law is different for front and rear windows. You could always leave the front windows as they are from Toyota, and have the rear ones done darker locally... if that's what you wanted to do.

I've always had tint below the legal limit and have never had problems. I have a feeling that a Prius probably has a much lower chance of getting pulled over than say a Mustang or a Camaro...ya know?

Aside from just LOOKING cool, tint really helps with the heat issue. The darker the windows, the less that the A/C system has to compete with the hot sun beating in on you through the windows... which means that you can get the interior just as cold without pushing the A/C as hard. It's also good to help protect the leather from sun abuse over time.

Thanks for the info. I'll most definitely look into it once I get the car and I'm able to really check out the tint. Who knows...I may end up being happy with Toyota's tint. The main reasons I want the tint is for the heat, and for the security of being a little harder to see inside (specially at night). My mom's Suburban has a really nice tint. (I believe 35%-40% on the front windows. A little lighter than yours.) It definitely makes a huge difference with the heat.

I forgot to mention in one of my previous replies that I also added the carpet mat set as another option along with the tint and rear bumper protector. I HOPE they don't screw up by accidentally adding that ugly bumper applique instead of the hard plastic protector. lol!

    Lol. Thanks.

I used Tinted Concepts on the westbank for my tint. They only charged me $179, which is great considering that there are TEN windows that need to be tinted (11 if you get the front visor strip, but that cost extra). I got 50% on the front door windows, 30% on the back door windows, and 5% on the hatch (not quite legal, lol).
