Using Bluetooth with iPod Touch

Is that an iPod connected with the adaptor/interface (or aux) or is it streaming via Bluetooth?

WOW! So you're able to BT two devices at once: one for phone & one for music!

WOW! Are you using an iTouch 2nd Gen?

Yes, iTouch 2nd Gen...had to download the software update from Apple...

We do apologize; the Bluetooth connection via the navigation system would conflict with the use of the interface kit for your iTouch. At this time, the only way to connect your iTouch through the interface kit without it conflicting with the radio would be to connect the iTouch through the base grade audio system with bluetooth capabilities. In that instance, the music that would be streaming through your iTouch would be interrupted when a call came in.

If I understand them correctly (which is by no means certain), an iTouch connected via the interface kit would not work in conjunction with a BT phone; however, if both are connected BT, then the iTouch would work (per tekgirl).

Does this seem to agree with everyone's experience relative to the interface kit? (I'm just trying to be prepared when my IV arrives in October... hopefully!)

 

You don't need the interface system...

 

Not if I have an iTouch... which I don't have yet. I've been trying to figure out how to integrate all this technology (phone, music, nav) in the easiest manner. Do you think it would make more sense to have the interface (I don't know if there are any other uses for USB???) and continue to use my iPod (I'd have to plug it in each time) or spend the money on an iTouch 2nd Gen?

I see your point...I guess it depends on your wants, needs and $$$... I have 2 iTouches and a 3rd Generation iPod, but I am a tekgirl I would rather stream my music and have everything work through the audio aspect of the nav system than have to plug in an interface. But that is just me. Everyone has their own opinion and way of using technology.

 

Looks like I could get a 16G iTouch for less than the interface would cost...

I guess now it's time to look for a new phone too...

You're welcome, indianagreg! I love my iTouch...As for a new phone, my Samsung Omnia worked right off the bat - no iPhone for me - or not until Verizon sells them...

 

...one more question!

When you stream music from your iTouch, what displays (or can display) on the nav screen regarding the music, e.g., song name, playlists, artist, etc.

...and another thing.... What music functions are you able to control via the steering wheel?

Actually, there is minimal dashboard control (start, stop, volume) - that's it. Although I have not tried this yet...here is a quote from an online review:

"Later (no date set) Toyota will add a dealer-install option that gives you a USB jack for iPods and other music-containing devices; you can control the player from your Prius radio or steering wheel controls. That's for the Prius base audio system. Only. If you have a Prius with the JBL premium audio system or the navigation system, you're S.O.L."

 

This quote contains wrong info, unless it was taken out of context. Toyota marketing (Prius Team) has said that the existing non-USB ipod connector is only for the base (Prius II) radio, and that the USB version will only be for the nav systems. Since people have reported installing the non-USB connector on a V with Nav, their info was not entirely correct. However, it is clear that the USB connector is aimed at and will work on the nav units.

Here is the deal - on my nav screen, the only display I get for my iTouch is the Play button and Pause. I can control the volume from my steering wheel. That is it, unless I am missing something.

 

That's what others have been saying, too.

I think its time to send another email to Toyota to try to find out what the new adapter/interface will bring to both the nav screen and steering wheel controls.

(I've now sent my third email to them. They're certainly to be commended for their willingness to communicate about the various features of the Gen III Prius!)

 

Please excuse my ignorance. I have an iPod Touch but I don't know what generation it is because I didn't buy it (won it at a convention). It's 8GB capacity and under the About tab in Settings, it says the version is 2.2.1 (5H11A).

Can I make it bluetooth compatible just by downloading the new firmware? Do I go to the Apple site to get the firmware?

Version 2.2.1 is the software and yes you can go to the Apple site and download version 3.0: Apple - Download music and more with iTunes. Play it all on iPod.

But I need more help. I cannot find this software. When I click on the link, it just gives me a message that it is connecting to the iTunes store, but it never seems to get there. If I go directly into iTunes store, I cannot figure out where to go to find the firmware download.

*Update *-- I found it. What was happening was that it was asking me whether I only wish to see content that is delivered via the secure site and I was clicking "yes" by default -- and it wouldn't get to the site. When I clicked "no" it finally directed me to the right page in iTunes.

 

You will have to contact Apple if you are having trouble downloading their software. I did not have any trouble...
