I agree the money will go fairly quickly, but to think that it will be only a few days (or even this upcoming Monday) as has been suggested on here sounds kinda crazy to me.

Time will tell, Kettledrum. I'm guessing weeks, if that.

Granted I live in a relatively thriving city during this economy (Raleigh, NC), but my dealer had taken in over 40 cars by the first day. That's a lot, if the average is 18 TOTAL before the money runs out. I'm sure many dealers are having the same experience.

Interesting. I supplied regarding our clunker, originals to be copied of the title, registration and an insurance company binder letter on that company's letterhead and signed. I filled out a C.A.R.S. survey and most importantly perhaps the C.A.R.S. form. I wonder if applications will be rejected if not all five pieces of documentation are properly executed and presented.

Fingers crossed - I have an appointment to pick up my car at 11am tomorrow morning. My sales rep was going through the incredible list of paperwork required to make sure everything is in place. He said we're his #1 delivery for CARS. I'm counting down the hours!

Oh, yes they will, the gov. is very specific about this. However, if you already have your car, the dealership is just on the hook here, not the customer. They supplied the info they were required to supply but the dealership dropped the ball. I'm pretty confident that the dealership would, in this case, just have to eat the loss! I didn't want to go through this hassle with them which is why I pointed out to them their need to have me sign and view the additional forms, survey, etc.

Are you sure that Dealers have no recourse if the paperwork is mishandled and that they would have to incur the $4500 loss? My contract has a small line that stated that the $4500 rebate was contingent on governmental approval.

Yea, I seriously doubt dealerships would take a $4500 hit without a fight. I'm certain the dealership's lawyers put in a clause somewhere, as you have pointed out, shifting the responsibility right back on the consumer. It's another reason I'm sorta happy my dealership didn't accept any CFC-based purchases until they're ready Monday morning. And of course, I'll be there right when they open their doors :)

Well, they got you there then. Do you realize that they can mess up your application. You did everything correct and submitted to them all the required forms, signed everything correctly, etc. They forgot to get the signature from the scrapper or the gov. rejects their app because a VIN # is entered incorrectly and by the time they resubmit correctly, the money is gone! Wow, you could wind up paying for their screw up in processing your app. Glad my dealership didn't have any "line" like that on my contract (just checked it over to make sure!)

I'm having trouble making my Clunkers trade. I began negotiating with my dealer for a Prius 2 over a month ago, and he promised delivery within 7-10 days of receiving my deposit. I paid a deposit two weeks ago and he re-confirmed that it would be 7-10 days until delivery. Now he says he can't get my vehicle until mid-August, and even then it isn't guaranteed. Unless of course I'd like to buy a bunch of dealer upgrade packages.

Anyone have any suggestions on where I can file a complaint against them? I'm going to be very angry if I miss my clunkers trade-in opportunity.

Hmmm. I do not think you have a case unless there is a car on the lot with your name on it as "Sold", you have a deal memo with $ x off C.A.R.S and the dealer grossly botches your C4C paperwork. The paperwork is substantive. Maybe not even then.

Ever dealer is on a learning curve here as well.

I hope the gerbils at the govt website are still turning the wheels and the site (where every deal, every deal needs govt pre-approval) is up and running well.

Our dealer called a few hours ago asking how many miles were on our clunker (149,870). I take this as a good sign but who knows.

For you of course I hope the money is not exhausted before the stars align and all the above occurs.

My dealer will not deliver the new Prius to me unless they get the deal OK'ed by government.

I have already given them the copies of insurance, title registration etc. Almost an hour ago the sales person called me and told me they have filed the application and waiting for confirmation.

Any idea how long the confirmation process will take ?
Is there anybody on the forum already got the confirmation ?

Well, I would be really surprised, Matt, if they don't get rejected. I am not a dealer, but from the way I read the Fed final rule, for the dealership to get confirmation that their application is approved (i.e. completed correctly), they have to have not just your paperwork correct and submitted along with all forms and scanned documents, but also a form certifying that they have "killed" your engine block and drivetrain (this takes shop time, to drain oil, put in liquid glass, move car and start engine up till it seizes and confirm a couple of hours later that it will no longer run), and get approved junkyard (scrapper) dealer to sign off on your vehicle certifying that they have taken delivery of your clunker, etc.

Unless they just happened to have this third party (scrapper) standing around at their business signing all these forms as the clunkers are disabled, then its gonna take a while! Could be weeks before you see your vehicle in your driveway.

My dealer told me this afternoon something about SMO paper? Sorry Im not sure if I got the letters right, but he referred to papers of origination something that Toyota normally doesn't hold on to. It could take weeks to get so the Toyota regional office is trying to get a pass on this request. Dealer said probally tomorrow they would be ready. Anyone else have this problem and can explain it better then me.

What did you end up getting? The place I got it from might be able to hook you up quicker if those guys are dragging their feet. I drove mine home today and got the 4500 off.

My effective tax rate was over 28% last year, I look at it as a rebate check.

    do you mean "marginal rate"?

effective means (federal income tax) / (total income)

for most people, the exemptions/deductions yield an effective rate in the teens
