Nit picking here I know, but removing it would open up some of the rear window view. Removing the motor = less weight:rolleyes:. Aerodynamics, smoother lines, better looking.;):cheer2::rockon:

Interesting theory. I live in LA and have little use for any wipers...Take pics if you make the mod!

As small as it is, we could probably do without it, but I like having one anyway. :)

    Hi All,

This week, 3 of the last 5 days the rear window was obsured with dew condensation in the morning before backing out. I guess could go wipe it down with a paper towel, but the wiper is sure handy.

In the winter, if you get in a heavy snow fall during the drive home, it can be difficult changing lanes with the rear window having 3 inches of snow on it. The wiper will help get you some visibility out back. The defroster will only melt a thin layer, and at slow speeds the aero forces wont remove the snow.

I just used mine today for the first time... what a joke. It hardly cleared enough area to be useful. I guess I better use some window treatment.

if you feel like you can live without the rear wiper, i say go for it and remove all the stuff related to the wiper.

if you're lucky, you can find a black plastic plug that will fit the hole in the rear glass and silicon it in the hole. (keep water out). then plug the washer fluid hose with a screw or something plus more silicon. then remove the motor and you're good to go.

if you do this, weigh everything and let us know the total weight. that way others can decide if it's worth it or not.

    good luck.

Let's see, so far we are removing the rear wiper, the side mirrors, the body side moldings, and antennas for the sake of fuel effiecency. Have you guys thought about how much weight the floor mats add, heck even the carpet. I guess we need to do a poll on who has stripped the interior of their cars out.

I've got to agree on this one: I'm amazed that such a large device clears such a tiny, off-center piece of a window. Compare it to the front windshield wipers that even pivot to cover more surface area. I wouldn't think of removing the rear-window wiper, but it sure is laughable.

well, removing the side mirrors is laughable. if you live in a climate that doesn't justify a rear wiper then it's totally understandable.

lot's of people shave various things off their cars. hell, think about the tuner aftermaket and all the crazy things they do to cars/trucks. shaving a rear wiper is no biggie.

I like having a rear wiper, however the design of this one is one of the worst things about the car. Why does it not clear all the way to the base of that window?

That's true. But for longer-term cost savings, get everyone in the family to lose weight. Or get a divorce if you're married so you won't have to haul the extra weight of a spouse.

    I I lost 50 lbs....

How much mileage would I save if I went on a diet. my fat does not impact aerodynamics, just weight. (am 260, should be 210)

Although its swath is small, under some rain conditions it's the difference between having some visibility and no visibility.

Can you post a picture of the the rear look? Also, did it leave a hole or anything? Was it heavy?
